Dellinger worked until 2020 at Boies Schiller\u2064 Flexner, a top \u200bDemocratic law firm. His stint\u2062 there overlapped with\u200b Hunter Biden&#8217;s position as counsel to the firm, \u200bwhere the younger Biden worked on behalf of Ukrainian energy firm Burisma Holdings.<\/p>\n<p>Emails from Hunter Biden&#8217;s \u200dabandoned laptop \u2064show that the\u200d first son worked\u200b closely with Boies Schiller&#8217;s crisis management \u2063team, of which \u200cDellinger\u200b was a member, to craft \u200da public relations and lobbying strategy for Burisma as\u2062 the Ukrainian firm faced several bribery investigations.\u200c Biden \u2062and Dellinger exchanged emails and attended a private dinner for the\u2062 law firm&#8217;s\u200b crisis management \u200bteam in 2014, the <em>Free Beacon<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans say that relationship raises &#8220;serious&#8221; conflict-of-interest concerns about Dellinger,\u2064 who serves as\u200b head of \u200bthe Justice \u200cDepartment&#8217;s Office\u2062 of Legal Policy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Put simply, Mr. Dellinger&#8217;s \u200dconnection to the Hunter \u2063Biden Burisma matter gives us serious pause about his \u200dnomination\u2064 to be \u200dSpecial \u200dCounsel,&#8221; \u200dRepublican Sens. \u2063Marsha \u200dBlackburn (Tenn.), Ted Cruz (Texas), Chuck\u200d Grassley (Iowa), Tom Cotton \u200b(Ark.), and John \u2064Cornyn (Texas) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackburn.senate.gov\/services\/files\/2575BBC5-2374-4DED-9E9A-348278868068\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> in a letter to President Biden.<\/p>\n<p>The senators noted \u2064that Dellinger, if confirmed, would be in charge of investigating allegations of retaliation\u2062 against federal whistleblowers. At \u2062least \u200btwo \u2062IRS investigators \u200chave filed whistleblower \u2063complaints regarding the Justice Department&#8217;s handling \u2063of its\u2064 investigation into Hunter Biden&#8217;s taxes and his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-calls-travel-lid-for-wednesday-an-hour-after-bobulinski-interview-airs\/\" title=\"Biden Calls Travel Lid for Wednesday an Hour After Bobulinski Interview Airs\">foreign business dealings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d whistleblowers, Gary Shapley and \u200cJoseph Ziegler, have also \u200daccused IRS and Justice \u2062Department officials of retaliating against them for expressing concerns\u200d about the probe. In July, \u2063Grassley called on the current head of the Office of \u200bSpecial Counsel, Henry Kerner, to investigate\u200d the\u2063 alleged retaliation against Shapley and Ziegler.<\/p>\n<p>In their \u200dletter, the Republicans \u200durged Biden to withdraw Dellinger&#8217;s nomination and find a\u200b nominee who is \u2063&#8221;free from even the\u2063 appearance of\u200b a\u2064 conflict of interest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mr. Dellinger&#8217;s reported connection with Hunter Biden and the Burisma matter creates significant doubt\u200b that he\u2063 can \u2064carry out his duty to safeguard the IRS whistleblowers, who \u2064are critical in\u200b shedding light\u2063 on the two-tiered system of justice perpetrated under your watch,&#8221;\u200c the senators wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans have investigated whether Joe\u2062 Biden, as vice president, pulled strings on behalf of Burisma \u200cHoldings to help his son. Hunter Biden was tapped in \u2063April 2014 to\u200c serve on Burisma&#8217;s board of directors.<\/p>\n<p>Shapley and Ziegler, the IRS investigators, have alleged that Hunter Biden failed to pay taxes on his income from Burisma in 2014\u2064 and\u2063 2015.
