whose profile photo \u200dwas actually\u2063 an AI-generated image available for purchase on\u200c a website.<\/p>\n<p>Another \u2063source expressed disbelief,\u2063 stating, &#8220;This person does not exist. \u2064It&#8217;s just crazy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>TheStreet, another publication owned by The Arena Group, \u200bwas also found to be \u2062engaging in similar practices.<\/p>\n<p>When Futurism reached \u200bout to The Arena Group \u2063for comment, they received no immediate response.<\/p>\n<p>After being contacted by Futurism, all\u200d the AI-generated authors mysteriously disappeared from Sports \u200bIllustrated&#8217;s website, \u200conly to \u2064be\u2062 replaced by new phony \u200bauthors.<\/p>\n<p>The report pointed out\u200d that the magazine&#8217;s\u2064 website did not \u2064initially disclose that the articles were AI-generated, but eventually added a Disclaimer acknowledging the \u200binvolvement of a third party.<\/p>\n<p>Sports Illustrated, known\u200b for\u2062 its \u2063coverage of social issues, has faced a significant blow\u2064 to \u200cits reputation with this revelation, further \u2062eroding public\u200d trust in &#8220;thinking&#8221; computer systems in media.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, Authentic Brands Group purchased Sports Illustrated \u2063from Meredith for $110 million and licensed \u200bthe brand \u200cto Maven, which later became Arena\u2062 Group Holdings.<\/p>\n<p>Variety reported\u200d that a third-party company named AdVon Commerce claimed to have written the \u2062content for Sports Illustrated, but has since ended its partnership with The Arena Group.<\/p>\n<p>The Arena Group stated, &#8220;According to AdVon, their writers, editors, \u2064and researchers create and \u2064curate content,\u2063 using counter-plagiarism and counter-AI software.\u2062 However, we have learned that\u2063 AdVon had writers\u2064 use pen names in\u2062 certain articles, actions we don&#8217;t condone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Following the report, the \u2064Sports Illustrated Union released a statement expressing their \u200chorror and\u200b demanding answers from Arena Group management.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200bstatement read, \u2064&#8221;If true,\u200b these practices violate\u200b everything we believe in about\u2063 journalism. We deplore being associated with something so disrespectful to our readers.
