He stated, &#8220;Homosexuality is invading the Church. Evangelicals no longer see the severity of this [because] they\u2019re busy apologising for their apparently\u200c barbaric homophobia, whether or not\u2063 it\u2019s \u200dtrue.&#8221; Edwards emphasized that this issue \u2063is a &#8220;Gospel issue&#8221; and that\u200d redefining\u2062 sin \u200bundermines the need for \u2062a Savior.<\/p>\n<p>Following the social media post, Cliff College suspended Edwards in March and allegedly threatened to report him to the British Prevent counter-terrorism program. The college denied this claim. Eventually, Edwards was fired for &#8220;bringing the college into disrepute.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Edwards accused Cliff College of being disproportionate in its handling of\u2062 the situation \u200band violating his academic \u200dfreedom, Christian freedoms, and free speech. He\u2064 filed a lawsuit seeking damages \u2062for \u2063harassment, discrimination, and unlawful termination.<\/p>\n<p>The Christian Legal Center is supporting \u200bEdwards\u2064 in his legal battle against his former employer.<\/p>\n<p>Despite\u200b the controversy, \u2062Edwards maintains that his tweet was not defamatory, \u2063abusive, or an \u200bextremist religious \u2063view.
