The culprit is the U.S.-owned\u200c and operated \u2062news network\u200c Voice of America (VOA).<\/p>\n<p>VOA\u2019s reporting on the war\u2064 between Israel and Iranian-backed proxies such as Hamas has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pushing-college-for-all-makes-americans-poorer-heres-what-we-need-instead\/\" title=\"Pushing \u2018College For All\u2019 Makes Americans Poorer. Here\u2019s What We Need Instead\">fallen woefully short<\/a>. Journalism demands both specificity and\u2063 accuracy. \u200dBut the taxpayer-funded VOA has refused to call Hamas \u201cterrorists.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In an Oct. 23 report,\u200c journalist Jimmy Quinn revealed that VOA\u2019s management told \u2063staff\u2064 not to call Hamas and its members \u2062\u201cterrorists.\u201d \u2064Three days before Quinn\u2019s dispatch, VOA associate editor for news standards Carol Guensburg told employees that VOA must \u2062maintain \u200bneutrality and its reporters should \u201cbe especially careful with word choice in dealing with a conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>VOA added\u2063 that \u200dwhile it was permissible to call \u200cthe Oct.\u2063 7\u200c massacre of hundreds of \u2063civilians a \u201cterrorist attack,\u201d \u2062the news outlet must \u201cavoid calling Hamas and its members terrorists,\u200d except\u2064 in \u200dquotes.\u201d Instead, \u201cuseful alternatives\u201d like \u201cmilitant group or militants or fighters\u201d \u200dshould be\u2064 used. VOA\u2019s decision echoes that of \u200dsome other news outlets, including the Associated Press.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clearly Terrorists<\/h3>\n<p>Yet Hamas is, in fact, a U.S.-designated \u200bterrorist group \u2014 and it\u2062 has held that designation since 1997. \u200cThe European Union, Israel, and others have similarly designated\u2064 Hamas as a terrorist organization.\u2063 And they\u2019ve done so \u200cfor good reason: Hamas \u2064is a terrorist group that commits acts of \u200bterror.<\/p>\n<p>The group, which has its origins in the Muslim \u2063Brotherhood, has targeted civilians in suicide bombings and other acts of \u200cterror that go back decades. Hamas\u2019 charter calls for the destruction of Israel and the genocide of Jews. The Brotherhood\u2019s founders supported Hitler.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Hamas\u2019 barbarism isn\u2019t up for debate. During the Oct. 7 \u2062massacre, Hamas \u2062invaded Israel and murdered\u2063 more than 1,200 people\u200b in one day. \u2062It was \u2063the largest \u200dslaughter \u2062of\u2062 Jewish \u200bcivilians since the Holocaust. The terrorists\u200d were so proud \u2063of their atrocities that they filmed\u200c themselves. They shot\u2062 babies \u2062to death in car seats \u2064and cribs, they set the elderly on fire \u2063in their own homes, and \u200bthey tied\u200d up and dismembered \u2064families \u2062in front of\u200b each other. They gouged out children\u2019s\u2062 eyes while eating\u200c their \u2062food. They\u2062 raped women on the dead bodies of their friends before executing\u2063 them.\u2064 They raped some women so savagely that they\u200d broke their pelvises.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>At one music festival, more \u2062than\u2062 360\u2064 attendees were slaughtered, many shot \u2064to death while they ran from\u200d Hamas operatives who had paraglided in, \u200ca tactic that they apparently learned in Iran, the world\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-biden-gives-up-u-s-leverage-over-iran-offers-to-restart-nuclear-deal-talks\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Biden Gives Up U.S. Leverage Over Iran, Offers To Restart Nuclear Deal Talks\">leading state sponsor<\/a> of terrorism. \u2063Hamas took an estimated 240 hostages, including Americans and other\u2063 nationalities, \u200cand brought them back to Gaza. Some are reportedly being held in the underground tunnels that Hamas has built underneath schools, \u200dmosques, hospitals,\u2064 and universities, \u2063pilfering international aid to do so.<\/p>\n<p>If this is not terrorism \u2063then \u2064nothing \u200dis terrorism. The \u2062word \u2062becomes \u2064devoid\u2062 of meaning.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Selective Standards<\/h3>\n<p>Importantly, VOA\u2019s standard is selective. VOA had\u200b no problem labeling al-Qaeda or the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS)\u2064 \u201cterrorists.\u201d\u200b Yet Hamas, a similar Islamist movement, is given a pass. There is \u200dlittle difference between\u200d the groups.\u2064 Indeed, proportionally\u200d to\u2063 each country\u2019s population, the\u2064 Oct. 7 massacre led\u200c to more casualties than the Sept. 11, 2001, \u200bterror attack by al-Qaeda. The only difference\u2064 is that Hamas\u2019 primary focus is on destroying Israel, though the \u200dgroup has murdered dozens of Americans throughout the years.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>VOA\u2019s coverage of the latest war has been\u200b replete with anti-Israel bias.<\/p>\n<p>In\u200c a Nov. 9\u200d report, the outlet regurgitated Hamas claims that an Israeli missile hit Shifa Hospital.\u2063 In fact, it was an errant\u200d terrorist rocket that fell short.\u2063 Shifa Hospital \u2063has\u200d long been \u2062used as a primary base of operations for\u200d Hamas \u2014 a fact confirmed\u2063 by U.S. intelligence \u2064and noted by U.S. administration officials. Indeed, one can \u200dgo back more \u200bthan a decade and find reports from The Washington Post, PBS,\u200b and others detailing\u2063 how Shifa is used\u2062 by Hamas. Nonetheless, in a Nov. 11 tweet, VOA\u200b presented\u200b this as merely\u200c an Israeli \u201cclaim\u201d that\u2063 \u201cHamas\u2063 and hospital\u2063 staff deny.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Some former VOA employees \u2063are \u2064rightfully \u2062outraged at the organization\u2019s bias. Ted \u200cLipien, formerly VOA\u2019s acting associate\u2062 director, has \u2063called for a bipartisan effort to replace the agency\u2019s management.<\/p>\n<p>VOA was established on the eve \u200bof \u200cWorld\u200b War II. In its first broadcast on Feb. 1, 1942,\u2064 VOA promised, \u201cWe shall \u200ctell you the truth \u2026\u200b today and \u2062daily \u200bfrom now on.\u201d This vow was made when the U.S. was at war\u2064 with Nazi barbarism. Eight \u200ddecades later, the West is\u2063 at war with another group of genocidal antisemites, and one of America\u2019s information arms \u2063is taking the wrong side.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> Should news \u200coutlets like VOA be\u200b neutral or prioritize accuracy when \u200dreporting on terrorist \u2063groups \u200clike Hamas?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  \u2062 Meaningless if it cannot be \u200baccurately applied to groups like Hamas. Their actions clearly demonstrate the \u200ddefinition of \u200cterrorism:\u200b the deliberate targeting and\u200b killing of innocent civilians for political, ideological, or\u200d religious purposes.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Importance of Accurate Reporting<\/h3>\n<p>Journalism plays a \u200dcritical role in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mainstream-media-and-big-techs-seismic-shift-to-the-left\/\" title=\"Mainstream Media and Big Tech\u2019s Seismic Shift to the Left\">shaping public opinion<\/a> and understanding \u200dof\u200b global events. It is\u2064 the responsibility of news outlets, like VOA, to \u200dreport the\u2064 facts objectively and accurately. By refusing to call Hamas \u2063what \u2064it truly is &#8211; a terrorist group, VOA\u200b is failing in \u200cthis responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>Neutrality\u200b should never justify the omission or manipulation \u2063of\u2063 facts. It is\u2063 not a journalist&#8217;s duty to toe the line \u200bof\u200d political correctness or appease certain groups or interests. Journalists must stand for truth, regardless of\u2064 how uncomfortable or controversial it may be.<\/p>\n<p>By not \u200cclearly \u2062labeling Hamas as terrorists, VOA is unintentionally giving credibility to the group and undermining the efforts of those\u2064 fighting against terrorism. It sends \u200da dangerous\u2063 message to the \u2063world that terrorism can be justified or downplayed.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Call for Change<\/h3>\n<p>It is\u200d imperative that VOA revisits its stance\u2063 on neutrality and reevaluates its guidelines regarding\u200c the terminology used for terrorist organizations. The truth should never be sacrificed for the sake of \u2064political correctness or the fear of offending certain groups.<\/p>\n<p>VOA should take \u200ba cue from its fellow news outlets that have chosen to accurately label Hamas as \u2064a \u200bterrorist group. By doing so, VOA can\u2063 restore its \u2063credibility and \u200bfulfill \u2063its mandate to provide accurate,\u200c unbiased news to its audience.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, it is crucial for the U.S. government, as the owner and operator of\u200d VOA,\u200b to\u200c step in \u2063and ensure that the network upholds American values and stands firmly against terrorism. Neutrality should\u2064 never equate to moral ambiguity or\u200d silence in the face of evil.<\/p>\n<p>The fight against terrorism requires \u2064more than just military action. It requires the full support and commitment of all institutions,\u200b including the media. VOA has a responsibility to\u2063 contribute \u200bto this fight, and it can start\u200b by accurately identifying and reporting on terrorist groups \u2062such as Hamas.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>VOA&#8217;s neutrality problem is a significant issue that \u200bcannot be ignored. In order to fulfill \u200bits mission of providing truthful and unbiased news, VOA must abandon its \u2062reluctance to label\u200d Hamas as a terrorist group. Accuracy and truth should always prevail over political \u2064correctness and appeasement.<\/p>\n<p>The world looks to the United States for leadership in the \u2064fight \u200dagainst terrorism.
