Even rarer is finding a\u2063 person who rises above\u2062 the chaos\u200d by embodying the message\u200b of Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Squanto \u2014 the \u2062Pawtuxet\u200b Indian most often associated with the first Thanksgiving in 1621 \u2014 experienced the\u2062 worst his turbulent \u200bera had to offer \u2064and overcame it by embracing the Christian faith he came to \u2062adopt.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>From a European \u2064perspective, Squanto lived during \u2063a time of two world-changing \u2064developments: the discovery of \u2062the New\u2064 World and the \u200bProtestant Reformation.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>These two\u200d developments\u2063 were\u200b closely\u200b aligned. In fact, a European \u2064born \u2062during Christopher Columbus&#8217; historic 1492 voyage would have turned 25 in \u20641517 \u2014 the year Martin Luther published his 95 Theses.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>By the late\u2063 sixteenth \u2063century, when \u2063Squanto was born, Europeans had\u2062 already colonized the New World, and religious wars between Catholics and Protestants were raging in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>While little is known\u200d about\u200b Squanto&#8217;s early\u200c life, it is believed \u2063that \u2064he\u2062 was \u200ckidnapped in 1605 and taken to England.\u2064 In 1614, he was abducted by Englishmen and sold into slavery in \u200bSpain.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Catholic\u200c theologian Damian Costello has described\u200c this abduction as crucial to Squanto&#8217;s spiritual journey.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After being purchased by Spanish priests, Squanto was instructed in\u2064 the \u200dCatholic faith. He eventually found his\u200b way to England and \u200creturned\u200c to North America in 1619, only to discover \u200bthat his village had been decimated by disease.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a group of radical English Protestants,\u200b known \u200cas the Pilgrims, set sail for the New World.\u2062 When\u200b they \u2062arrived \u2064in Plymouth in 1620, they were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-confirms-illegal-aliens-who-are-convicted-of-dui-rape-and-drug-related-crimes-will-not-be-deported-video\/\" title=\"White House Confirms Illegal Aliens Who are Convicted of DUI, Rape and Drug-Related Crimes Will NOT be Deported (VIDEO)\">ill-prepared<\/a> for survival.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In 1621, Squanto \u2014 \u2064now living among the Wampanoag tribe \u2014 came to the aid\u2063 of the starving Pilgrims, offering his services and teaching them essential skills for survival.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite the hardships he \u200chad\u200b endured at the hands of the \u2062English, Squanto\u2064 chose\u2064 forgiveness and acted\u200b with \u2064compassion, much like Jesus would have\u200d done.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Squanto\u200b taught the Pilgrims how \u2062to provide for the necessities of life&#8230;,&#8221;\u2063 wrote Kenyn M. Cureton, \u2062an educator with\u200c the Southern Baptist Convention.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Squanto&#8217;s selfless\u200b actions saved the Pilgrims from starvation, and in November 1621, they\u2062 celebrated a \u2063three-day\u200c Thanksgiving feast with Squanto and 90 other Indians.<\/p>\n<p>Tragically, \u2062Squanto fell ill with a fever in 1622\u2063 and passed away. According to Governor William Bradford, Squanto\u2064 asked for \u2062prayers so that he could go to the Englishmen&#8217;s God in Heaven.<\/p>\n<p>In \u200bthe midst of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/a-look-back-on-court-packing-attempts-in-us-history\/\" title=\"A Look Back On \u2018Court Packing\u2019 Attempts in US History\">tumultuous era<\/a>, Squanto exemplified Christian charity.
