To aid\u200d in\u2064 this process, Conboy formed the &#8220;President\u2019s\u2062 Task Force for Gender\u2063 Identity \u2062and Expression,&#8221; which \u2063will \u200cgather information\u200b and recommendations from other Catholic and \u200bwomen&#8217;s colleges regarding \u2063student housing considerations.<\/p>\n<p>While this news is undoubtedly \u200cexciting for\u200d many, there are those who\u200c feel betrayed by the decision. A 2010 alumna, who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed her disappointment, stating, &#8220;For over 175 years, Saint\u2062 Mary\u2019s College has been a unique place for women \u200bto grow\u2064 and learn \u200ctogether. It\u2019s \u200dwhere I formed lifelong friendships. Now, they are betraying me\u2062 and\u2063 thousands of other graduates and current students by blowing up the bedrock principles of our beloved college.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Conboy, however, emphasized\u2064 that St. Mary&#8217;s new policy is not uncommon among Catholic women&#8217;s colleges. \u200bShe stated, &#8220;We are by no means the first Catholic women\u2019s college to adopt a policy\u200c with this scope,&#8221;\u2062 adding that admitting transgender women aligns\u2062 with the college&#8217;s commitment to operate as \u200ba Catholic women\u2019s college.<\/p>\n<h3>Support and Legal\u2062 Basis<\/h3>\n<p>Conboy also assured that the board fully supports the new \u200bpolicy, \u2064which is based on Title IV of the Education Amendments \u2064of 1972.
