House Republicans held their first <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/29\/yes-the-biden-impeachment-hearing-presented-evidence-of-corruption-lots-of-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hearing <\/a>in the inquiry nearly two months ago.<\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1a78ce0f3a9c35c311a404ecaa138637\" class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1a78ce0f3a9c35c311a404ecaa138637 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cGiven your critical role you played in the investigation of Hunter Biden,\u201d Jordan wrote, \u201cyou are uniquely situated to shed light on whether President Biden played any role in the Department\u2019s investigation and whether he attempted, in any way, to directly or indirectly obstruct ether that investigation or our investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers first sought testimony from the Delaware prosecutor in June but were officially denied by the Justice Department at least twice. House Republicans asked for Wolf\u2019s testimony after a pair of whistleblowers from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) came forward this summer with explosive allegations of misconduct by DOJ attorneys related to their probe of Hunter Biden. Whistleblowers claimed the Biden Justice Department substantially interfered with the IRS investigation into Hunter, which <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/22\/irs-investigation-into-hunter-biden-started-as-probe-into-foreign-pornography-ring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">began<\/a> as a probe into a foreign pornography ring and quickly morphed into a broader criminal investigation implicating other members of the first family. According to two veteran IRS agents, DOJ officials <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/23\/delaware-u-s-attorneys-office-buried-biden-bribery-allegations-ag-barr-sent-for-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">buried<\/a> allegations of Biden family bribery that had been sent to the Delaware office for investigation, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/22\/fbi-knew-hunter-bidens-laptop-was-authentic-a-year-before-pressuring-big-tech-to-censor-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">knew<\/a> Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop was legitimate before helping tech giants suppress the computer\u2019s contents anyway, and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/20\/its-increasingly-clear-the-feds-were-protecting-joe-biden-not-hunter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">slow-walked<\/a> cooperation with federal tax investigators to protect the president.<\/p>\n<p>In June, Hunter Biden\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/21\/hunter-biden-plea-deal-on-five-year-old-crimes-shows-biden-protection-racket-at-work\/\">struck<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/21\/hunter-biden-plea-deal-on-five-year-old-crimes-shows-biden-protection-racket-at-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0a plea deal<\/a>\u00a0with federal prosecutors that watered down his years of criminal behavior to two misdemeanor tax crimes and a felony firearm charge, the latter of which would have been forgiven after 24 months of sobriety. Notably, that agreement would have been placed in jeopardy had the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/13\/cocaine-cover-up-secret-service-shrugs-off-white-house-white-powder-investigation-over-alleged-lack-of-dna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cocaine<\/a> found in the White House this summer been linked to the president\u2019s drug-addict son.<\/p>\n<p>Gary Shapley, the first IRS whistleblower to go public, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/irs-whistleblower-says-most-substantive-felony-charges-were-left-off-table-hunter-biden-probe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> Fox News in June that \u201cthe most substantive felony charges were left off the table.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c4c1739660a9c699c4ba218a3e05980b\" class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c4c1739660a9c699c4ba218a3e05980b fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThere were definitely hinderances that I\u2019ve never seen before in my 14 years concerning this investigation that didn\u2019t allow us to follow through on an investigation of any other individual to include President Biden,\u201d Shapley added.<\/p>\n<p>The plea agreement was ultimately <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/26\/hunter-biden-plea-deal-derailed-by-federal-judge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">derailed<\/a> in late July when the federal judge overseeing the case pressed attorneys with questions that revealed divisions between both sides. Despite numerous examples of his office protecting the Bidens, U.S. Attorney David Weiss, the lead prosecutor overseeing the case in Delaware, was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/22\/hunter-biden-special-counsel-appointment-is-a-blatant-act-of-corruption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">promoted<\/a> to special counsel in August following the dissolution of the plea agreement. Weiss has repeatedly given <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/22\/hunter-biden-special-counsel-appointment-is-a-blatant-act-of-corruption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">conflicting testimony<\/a> about whether he had authority to adequately prosecute the president\u2019s son prior to his appointment as special counsel.<\/p>\n<p>Emails reviewed by The Federalist in August <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/28\/exclusive-u-s-attorney-weiss-colluded-with-doj-to-thwart-congressional-questioning-emails-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reveal<\/a> Weiss and Wolf colluded with the DOJ to thwart oversight requests from Republicans on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmails obtained by the Heritage Foundation following a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit and shared exclusively with The Federalist establish that on multiple occasions, the Department of Justice intervened on behalf of Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss to respond to congressional inquiries related to the Hunter Biden investigation,\u201d Federalist Senior Legal Correspondent Margot Cleveland <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/28\/exclusive-u-s-attorney-weiss-colluded-with-doj-to-thwart-congressional-questioning-emails-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wolf was similarly the subject of a July <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/10\/grassley-probes-weiss-deputys-role-in-obstructing-biden-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> from GOP Iowa Sen.
