Tim Burchett of Tennessee, the latter claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Later\u200c that day, Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/senate-hearing-verge-literal-brawl-bernie-sanders-intervenes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Markwayne Mullin<\/a> of Oklahoma challenged Teamsters union president Sean O\u2019Brien to\u200c a fight on the \u200bSenate floor.<\/p>\n<p>Neither of the incidents painted\u2062 the\u200b party \u2062in its best \u2063light, but were they unprecedented\u200b in \u200bthis country\u2019s storied history?<\/p>\n<p>Is a lack of decorum in a\u2064 divided country really so unusual, considering our lawmakers once <a href=\"https:\/\/constitutioncenter.org\/blog\/famous-americans-killed-involved-in-duels#:~:text=Dueling%20was%20technically%20illegal%20in,end%20a%20decades%2Dlong%20feud.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">engaged in duels<\/a> that often resulted in death?<\/p>\n<p>Naturally,\u200d Democrats and their establishment media sycophants portrayed the two incidents as evidence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gop-senator-leaves-bidens-judicial-nominee-stumbling-define-basic-legal-terms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the GOP<\/a> has become an off-the-rail entity that has embraced violence.<\/p>\n<p>Ignoring the \u200dfact that essentially every elected Democrat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-matt-gaetz-explodes-house-floor-exposing-democrat-hypocrisy-riots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">encouraged\u200b rioting<\/a> throughout the summer of 2020 \u2064that resulted in death, destroyed property and \u200dlingering lawlessness, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/aaron-lewis-unleashes-democrats-responsible-every-fing-scar-exists-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the party of Jim Crow<\/a> \u2062is not in a \u200bposition \u200dto label its opposition \u200das inherently violent.<\/p>\n<p>Legislative bodies across the world see occasional\u2064 melees\u200b during sessions, and this country certainly didn\u2019t see anything \u200bof the sort on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Explaining Tuesday\u2019s Incidents<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>To put better put last week\u2019s incidents into \u200da historical context, let\u2019s first go over them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gop-rep-roasts-mccarthy-sucker-punching-compares-childhood-bully\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Burchett<\/a> \u2062 said\u200b he\u2064 was the victim of an assault by\u2063 McCarthy, \u2064who until just about six weeks ago was the House speaker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got elbowed in the back, and it kind of \u200dcaught me off guard\u2064 because it was a clean shot to the kidneys,\u201d the Tennessee Republican told \u2064CNN. \u201cAnd I turned back and there, there was Kevin,\u200b and for a minute I was kind of, \u2018What the heck just happened?\u2019\u2063 And then I\u200c chased after him, of \u2064course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Burchett \u200cadded,\u2062 \u201cNow he\u2019s the type of guy that when you\u2019re a kid would throw a rock \u200bover \u200dthe fence and run home and hide \u200dbehind his mama\u2019s skirt.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Tim Burchett describes the moment where he claims that Kevin McCarthy \u2063hit\u2063 him from behind with a \u201cclean shot to\u2062 the\u200c kidney\u201d in the halls of the Capitol after the GOP conference meeting. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lTyH6dM1cQ\">pic.twitter.com\/lTyH6dM1cQ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Greg Price (@greg_price11) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/greg_price11\/status\/1724464776925905362?\">November 14, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>McCarthy later denied he had assaulted a member of his own caucus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I hit \u200csomebody, they would know it,\u201d the former speaker\u200d said in response to the allegation\u200c from Burchett, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/11\/14\/politics\/burchett-mccarthy-elbowing-fight\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> reported. \u201cIf I kidney punched someone, they would be on the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Regarding\u2062 Mullin\u2019s incident on the Senate floor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/senate-hearing-turns-clown-show-union-boss-freaks-gop-sen-even-bernie-sanders-gets-involved\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Oklahoma Republican<\/a> was questioning O\u2019Brien \u2062during a hearing when he invoked an ongoing social media beef between him and\u200d the Teamsters boss.<\/p>\n<p>While referring to a post from O\u2019Brien that had \u2063challenged him to a fight, Mullin used \u2064the\u200b hearing as an opportunity for\u200b him to back up\u2062 his words in person.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSir, this is a time, this \u200dis\u2062 a place. You want to \u200drun\u2064 your mouth.\u200c We can be two consenting adults. We\u2063 can finish it here,\u201d the senator said. \u201cYou want to do it now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Brien\u2064 said he was willing to fight Mullin, a former professional\u2063 MMA fighter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, stand your butt up, then,\u201d\u2063 Mullin said to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-defector-emails-pipeline-to-obama-admin-seen-as-currency\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden Defector Emails: 'Pipeline' to Obama Admin Seen as 'Currency'\">union boss<\/a>, who replied, \u201cYou\u2064 stand your\u200c butt up.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Oklahoma Sen. Preston Brooks of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/prayer-breaks-trump-makes-unexpected-stop-south-carolina-burger-shop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South Carolina<\/a> \u2062took issue with comments made by Republican\u200c Sen. Charles Sumner of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/guatemalan-illegal-alien-also-convicted-sex-offender-arrested-massachusetts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Massachusetts<\/a> regarding \u200dthe \u2062expansion of slavery \u200cin the West.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks\u200d attacked him viciously with a cane.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWielding \u200bthe cane he used for injuries he incurred in a duel over a political debate in 1840, Brooks \u200bentered \u2063the Senate chamber \u200band attacked Sumner at his desk, which was bolted to the floor,\u201d an account of \u2064the assault from\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/this-day-in-history\/southern-congressman-attacks-northern-senator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">History.com<\/a> said. \u201cSumner\u2019s legs were pinned by \u2064the desk so he could not escape the savage beating. Jonathan Cilley of \u200bMaine agreed\u2064 to\u2064 a duel \u200dwith Rep. \u2064William Graves of Kentucky, a member\u2063 of the Whig party.<\/p>\n<p>Feeling his honor \u200chad been \u200cchallenged by Graves amid an\u200b allegation of bribery, Cilley agreed to a rifle fight\u2062 in\u2062 Prince George\u2019s County, Maryland, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/history.house.gov\/Historical-Highlights\/1800-1850\/A-fatal-duel-between-Members-in-1838\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an archive<\/a> \u2062 from\u2063 the House \u200cof Representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Neither\u2064 man was very good with a rifle, but after\u2064 three rounds of firing and reloading, Cilley was shot and\u2062 soon died from\u200c his injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Then-President Martin Van Buren attended the funeral.<\/p>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/victor-davis-hanson-trump-takes-lesson-andrew-jackson-2024-will-interesting-indeed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andrew\u2064 Jackson<\/a> shot and killed another man \u200bin a duel following an accusation he cheated while gambling on a horse race.<\/p>\n<p>In 1806,\u200d when Jackson was a lawyer\u200c in Tennessee,\u200d a man named Charles\u2063 Dickinson \u2062not only accused \u200bJackson of cheating on the race but\u200d also insulted his wife. The two men \u200dagreed \u2062to a pistol fight that took place in Kentucky on May 30 of that \u200byear.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/this-day-in-history\/andrew-jackson-kills-charles-dickinson-in-duel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">History.com<\/a> said of the duel,\u00a0\u201cJackson received Dickinson\u2019s first bullet \u2064in the chest\u2062 next\u200c to his heart. But\u200d let us\u2064 not forget that in 2016, then-Vice President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-tells-newsom-job-one-governor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a> told reporters he wanted to physically assault \u200dthen-GOP \u200cnominee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ramaswamy-flips-script-cnn-hosts-asks-gotcha-question-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe\u200b press always asks me,\u200b don\u2019t I wish\u200c I were debating him?\u201d Biden said \u2062while he \u200bwas campaigning for\u200c Democratic presidential nominee Hillary\u200b Clinton. \u201cNo, I wish I \u200dwere in high school, I could take him behind the gym.
