When sports commentator and pregame show host Charissa Thompson confessed last week that she fabricated some of her NFL halftime reports, Americans and journalists were understandably outraged.<\/p>\n

Thompson explained on the Pardon My Take podcast<\/a> that she would make up the reports when the coach didn’t come out at halftime or it \u200cwas too late. She admitted, “I didn’t want to screw up\u2064 the report, \u200dso I was like, ‘I’m just gonna make this up.'” <\/p>\n

She claimed that she faced no consequences because the NFL coaches she\u2063 was supposed to \u2064interview wouldn’t correct\u200d her. “No\u2062 coach is gonna get\u2064 mad if I say, ‘Hey, we need to stop hurting ourselves, we need to be better on \u2064third down, we need to\u200b stop turning the ball \u2062over … and do \u200da better job of getting off the field,'” she said.<\/p>\n

Thompson admitted to \u2064fabricating\u2062 information only during her time as a Fox sideline reporter from 2008 to 2009,\u200d not\u200b in her \u2063current roles as host of Fox NFL Kickoff and Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday \u200cNight Football.<\/p>\n

In a statement posted to her Instagram story<\/a>, Thompson downplayed \u200dher initial confession, claiming that she “chose the wrong\u2064 words to describe the situation.”<\/p>\n

“I’m sorry,”\u200b she wrote. “I \u2062have never lied about anything or been unethical during my time as \u2063a sports broadcaster.”<\/p>\n
