Now,\u200d thanks to\u2062 his loose lips, police believe the late Harp\u200c is responsible for an unsolved murder.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/fox2now.com\/news\/missouri\/incriminating-comment-helps-solve-1993-cold-case-arnold-missouri-murder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KTVI-TV<\/a>, Harp is accused of killing\u2062 liquor store owner Steve Weltig in\u200c a 1993 shooting in \u2062Arnold,\u200c Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cold-case-turns-white-hot-as-man-walks-into-fbi-office-confesses-to-hammer-murder-multiple-others\/\" title=\"Man confesses to hammer murder and other cold cases at FBI office.\">\/cold-case-turns-white-hot-man-walks-fbi-office-confesses-hammer-murder-multiple-<\/a>others\/&#8221; target=&#8221;_blank&#8221; rel=&#8221;noopener&#8221;>cold case<\/a> \u200d was warmed occasionally \u2014 but it wasn\u2019t until 2020 \u200bthat the Arnold Police Department got its big\u2064 break.<\/p>\n<p>It turned out the evidence that led to Harp\u2019s downfall \u2062had \u2063been sitting right under police\u2019s noses for\u2063 five years.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, Harp \u2014 who KTVI reported was known to authorities \u200cas a local debt enforcer and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/drug-dealer-thinks-scored-major-sale-realizes-late-texted-ultimate-wrong-number\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drug dealer<\/a> \u2062\u2014 was interrogated by cops.<\/p>\n<p>Cpl. Brett\u2064 Ackermann and Detective\u2064 Corporal \u2063Josh Wineinger reviewed evidence from the interrogation and found that what Harp said when\u2064 detectives were out of the room was the key to cracking the\u2064 case, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/murder-suspect-busted-police-station-after-incriminating-himself-when-detectives-left-room-cops\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox \u200bNews<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>For instance, in one phone conversation with detectives out \u2063of the room and the door closed, Harp told whoever was on the other end of the\u200d line, \u2063\u201cI\u2019m not under arrest, but I probably will be before\u200d I leave here.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIn another, he\u2019s\u2063 yelling at himself, saying he didn\u2019t kill Weltig,\u201d Fox News reported. \u201cHe was constantly twitching, shuffling in his chair, tapping his feet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe very important part of the interview is the \u200dtime when \u200cnobody is in the room but the suspect. Watching that dead time helped us. I was 100 percent convinced at that point,\u201d Ackermann told KTVI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was on\u2062 the phone, saying I\u2019m going to jail, stuff that would\u2063 indicate he\u2019s guilty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s when \u2062the pair knew they had to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-pro-life-woman-interrogated-initially-fined-silently-praying-outside-abortion-clinic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interrogate<\/a> Harp again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe looked\u2063 at \u2063each \u200bother like, we\u2019ve got to go talk to him,\u201d \u200dWineinger\u2062 said.<\/p>\n<p>The two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/az-rep-turns-voters-help-pelosis-goons-drag-dc-interrogation-jan-6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interrogated<\/a> Harp in 2020\u200c in\u200d an \u200cassisted-living center, where the then-68-year-old resided due to\u200b poor health. He was evasive during the three-hour interview, but did say\u2062 some incriminating things\u2062 during the pressing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo how \u200bdid it \u2063happen? How did\u200c it happen that he got a bullet hole in his \u200chead? And you\u2019re \u200bthe only other person \u200dthere, Loril?\u201c Ackermann asked during the interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m telling you, I didn\u2019t shoot him,\u201d Harp replied. \u201cI did not shoot Steve\u2062 Weltig.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Ackermann\u200d asked him \u2063to \u201ckeep going,\u201d Harp responded, \u201cI hit him, until\u200c he dropped the gun. And then I hit him again, and then \u2063I\u200d took off out the door.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harp also\u2064 allegedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/philadelphia-shooting-suspect-told-police-killing-spree-help-fight-gun-violence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told police<\/a> that when he got home, \u2064\u201cI showered, I had a bunch of blood on me,\u201d and other remarks indicating \u200bhe\u200c did it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou had blood on you?\u201d one of \u200bthe detectives repeated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI must\u2062 have if I shot him. Or he\u2064 shot me,\u201d \u200bHarp said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou weren\u2019t shot,\u201d one of the detectives replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHarp tried to backtrack and said the blood was from \u2063a fist \u200bfight. But \u2064it was too late. The detectives had him,\u201d Fox News\u200d reported.<\/p>\n<p>He was subsequently charged\u2063 with \u2064the murder of Weltig \u2014 but \u200bdied a year later at age \u206369. Now, videos that\u200b cracked the\u2062 case\u200c are being \u2063released by the police\u2064 department:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Obviously, the lack of a trial means a lack of closure for those hoping to\u200d hold Harp\u2062 accountable for the murder he\u2062 allegedly\u200b committed.<\/p>\n<p>However, the fact he went to his grave knowing the cops had finally caught up to him in a crime he\u2019d all but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/natalee-holloways-mother-breaks-silence-van-der-sloots-bombshell-confession-becomes-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">admitted to committing<\/a> is,\u2064 at least, somewhat satisfying. \u200dThanks \u2064to an alleged murderer and noted thug forgetting that \u200che was on tape \u2064and still could have chosen to remain silent, police have likely solved a 30-year-old\u2064 crime.<\/p>\n<p>Our hats are off to the officers whose\u2064 tenacious sleuthing made this possible \u2014 and can only hope more officers are able to follow\u200b their\u200d lead\u2062 in similar\u2064 cold cases.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h3>A Note \u200bfrom Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/h3>\n<p>What if\u2062 you \u2062woke up one morning and half of the people \u200dyou\u200c count on had just vanished\u2062 overnight?<\/p>\n<p>That happened\u200c to me recently.\u2064 I got up, came to work here at The Western Journal, and when I got to my office, literally half of our readers had vanished.
