Version: 4.0.47--><h2>The Birthplace of the American Revolution Could Soon\u2063 Offer \u200cForeign Nationals the\u200c Chance to Shape Its Future<\/h2>\n<p>Democratic leaders in Boston\u2064 are pushing to allow non-U.S.\u2064 citizens to vote \u2063in\u2063 municipal elections, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2023\/11\/15\/boston-city-council-weighing-voting-rights-for-immigrants-with-legal-status\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boston Herald<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal was introduced on Wednesday by City Councilor Kendra Lara\u200c and would apply to all residents who\u200b have \u201clegal status,\u201d \u2062presumably \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-biden-immigration-orders-seek-to-reverse-trumps-policies-streamline-naturalization-process\/\" title=\"New Biden Immigration Orders Seek To Reverse Trump\u2019s Policies, Streamline Naturalization Process\">green card holders<\/a> and people in the city on work \u2062visas.<\/p>\n<p>Lara passionately argues \u2063that denying non-citizens the right to vote\u2064 is \u201ca violation of one of\u2063 our foundational American principles.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cBy moving this \u2062home rule petition forward, Boston can begin the process of \u2064making good on our \u200dpromise to build a city that \u2062is for everyone,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lara \u200bhighlights the \u2064significant\u2064 contributions of immigrants with \u201clegal\u200c status\u201d in \u200dBoston, stating that they pay $2.3 billion in taxes every year and hold about $6 billion in \u201ccollective\u2062 spending power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(She also mentions that \u200dthey make up 28 percent of the city\u2019s population, but according to U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/quickfacts\/fact\/table\/bostoncitymassachusetts\/POP645221#POP645221\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">census data<\/a>, that number includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/human-smuggler-kills-two-innocent-americans-evading-police-car-full-illegals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">illegal immigrants<\/a> and naturalized citizens.)<\/p>\n<p>The Herald reports that several City Council members\u200c support the \u200cproposal, \u2064including Democrat Ricardo Arroyo, who \u2062believes it \u2063could boost voter \u2064turnout numbers.<\/p>\n<p>However, Democratic Councilor-at-Large Michael Flaherty raises legal concerns, pointing to a similar measure passed in New York\u200b City and \u200dstruck down \u200bby a state \u2063court.<\/p>\n<p>Flaherty acknowledges the importance \u200bof finding a\u2062 solution and maintaining an inclusive community, \u200dstating, \u201cWe need \u200dto find a way \u200bthrough this, we need to continue to be inviting\u2062 and welcoming to new Bostonians, we need to encourage all\u2062 that community involvement and participation,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/local-news\/2023\/11\/16\/boston-city-council-local-voting-rights-mmigrants-legal-status\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boston.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The City\u200b Council will continue to discuss the matter.<\/p>\n<p>As Flaherty points \u200dout, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/republicans-vow-take-action-nyc-gives-noncitizens-ability-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">measure<\/a> \u200cwas passed in New\u2062 York last year allowing the estimated 800,000 to 1 million non-citizens living in the \u200bcity to\u200c participate in \u2064local elections, but it was later blocked\u200b by a judge ruling that it violated the state constitution.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h3>A Note from Our Deputy Managing \u2064Editor:<\/h3>\n<p><em><b>What \u2062if you\u200c woke \u200bup one morning and half of the people you \u200bcount on had\u2063 just vanished\u2062 overnight?<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><b>That happened to me recently.
