They discussed a number of issues, including the possibility of reaching an agreement, in the judge\u2019s chambers.<\/p>\n<p>Murdaugh made his second in-person appearance before Judge Newman \u200cin Beaufort\u200c County General Sessions, this time sporting an orange prison uniform and white New Balance sneakers. Attorney General\u2019s Office started working on agreements and sentencing papers.<\/p>\n<p>Murdaugh\u2019s lawyer, Richard Harpootlian, informed reporters at 12:30 p.m. that\u2062 they were\u2062 \u201cclose\u201d to a potential\u200d agreement, pending \u2064approval \u200bby both sides of the court, and \u2062that any agreement \u2062reached would be \u201call\u200b or nothing,\u201d implying that Murdaugh was getting ready to \u200cplead guilty to all \u200dof\u200d his S.C. Grand Jury indictments, or none at all if terms\u2062 weren\u2019t agreed upon.<\/p>\n<p>This would \u201cbring some\u200b finality\u201d\u200c to\u200c the\u200b cases and the victims, according to Waters, and Murdaugh would serve a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/murdaugh-signs-guilty-plea-agreement-before-judge\/\" title=\"Murdaugh Signs Guilty Plea Agreement Before Judge\">lengthy state prison sentence based<\/a> on \u201cnegotiated sentences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The agreement covers Murdaugh\u2019s theft from the Gloria \u2063Satterfield estate\u2062 and will\u200b be signed by the Attorney \u2062General\u2019s \u2064Office, Murdaugh, and his\u200c attorney.<\/p>\n<p>Murdaugh \u200bwas given negotiated sentences of 10 or 20 years \u200bfor \u2062the\u200c majority \u200bof his \u2064crimes, and he would have to spend at least 85% of the 20-year term.<\/p>\n<p>Although the state is requesting that Murdaugh serve \u200da net \u200dof 27 years, with \u206385%\u200b of those years served,\u200c the \u2062sentence has\u2064 been postponed.<\/p>\n<p>The effect, if any, this might have on local indictments against Murdaugh for \u200bthe roadside shooting incident in September 2021\u2014after which he was charged \u200bwith\u200d insurance fraud\u2014is unknown.<\/p>\n<p>Despite \u2062Murdaugh\u2019s team\u2019s prior legal efforts, Newman presided over the session.\u2064 Murdaugh\u2019s\u200c lawyers moved the South\u200d Carolina Supreme Court on November 1<sup>st<\/sup>, asking for \u200ba \u2062writ of\u2063 prohibition that would prevent Judge Newman from presiding over any of Murdaugh\u2019s financial crimes cases.<\/p>\n<p>Murdaugh\u2019s lawyers had also asked\u200b for a change of site and a postponement of any financial crimes proceedings until after\u2062 the resolution of post-murder trial issues.<\/p>\n<p>The S.C. Supreme Court rejected those requests on Thursday, and Murdaugh\u2019s first financial crimes jury trial was originally scheduled to \u2062start in Beaufort County on November\u200b 27<sup>th<\/sup>. The trial \u2062would have focused on the theft from \u200bthe Gloria Satterfield Estate. In \u200dthe \u200devent that a plea\u200c deal is \u200breached, there will not be a \u200ctrial.<\/p>\n<p>While testifying in open court during\u200b his six-week murder trial in \u2062Walterboro, \u200cSouth Carolina, Murdaugh\u2063 admitted to several financial \u2064crimes and \u2064drug addictions. He has already entered a guilty plea\u2064 to the same charges in \u2063federal court and is awaiting punishment there.<\/p>\n<p>In Beaufort County, sentencing will be held\u200d on \u2064November 28<sup>th<\/sup>, and the remainder of Murdaugh\u2019s finance-related crimes will not \u2062be prosecuted.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
