Marco Rubio (R-FL) or Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) had squared off against Hillary Clinton \u2014 \u200bit is likely that the sister of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/maryanne-trump-barry-1937-2023\/\" title=\"Maryanne Trump Barry, 1937-2023\">eventual \u206345th president<\/a> would still be featured in this space. Whether or not her brother had ever become president, Maryanne Trump Barry was a woman\u200c of substance, achievement, and conservative temperament and intellect.<\/p>\n<p>Barry, who died on Nov.\u2063 13 at\u2063 age 86, was an assistant \u2063United States\u2063 attorney, a\u200b judge on the\u2062 U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, and\u200d an appellate judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals\u200d for the \u20643rd Circuit. Like the \u200brecently \u200cdeparted James L. Buckley, the U.S. senator and\u200b appellate\u2064 judge who happened to be brother to William F. Buckley, Barry had the advantages and \u200bthe baggage of having a\u200b famous and controversial \u2064public sibling, but also like James Buckley, Barry could point to\u200b her distinct accomplishments.<\/p>\n<h3>Discovering the Path Less Traveled<\/h3>\n<p>As the first-born of the five children of real-estate developer Fred Trump and his wife Mary,\u200b Maryanne\u2062 was nine years older than Donald, the\u2063 fourth-born. If Donald displayed the demeanor, drive, and inclination early on to enter the New York real-estate arena of his father, \u200cMaryanne took some time to discern her\u200c calling.\u200b In 1958, she received a\u200b bachelor\u2019s\u2064 degree from Mount Holyoke College. Two \u200cyears later, she married her first husband, David Desmond, with whom she had a son. Although she attained a master\u2019s degree in public law and government from Columbia University in 1962, she spent the remainder of the decade \u200braising her family.<\/p>\n<p>Then, \u200bshe\u200b set a new path for her life:\u200c In 1974, after earning a law degree from Hofstra University, she embarked on a tenure as a federal prosecutor in the District of New\u200d Jersey. In 1983, the \u2063same year Donald Trump unveiled the newly constructed Trump Tower, Barry, then married \u2062to her second husband John Barry, was tapped as\u2062 a nominee for\u200d the federal bench by\u200c President Ronald Reagan.<\/p>\n<p>So respected had she\u200d become on that bench that,\u2064 by 1999, Maryanne Trump Barry\u200c was a bipartisan choice to \u2064become an appellate judge. That \u2062year, President \u2063Bill\u200c Clinton nominated\u2062 Barry for a judgeship on the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. In confirming her, the Senate did \u2063not register\u200c a single nay vote. \u201cI assume that my record is good enough as \u2063a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wow-georgia-judge-who-also-is-stacy-abrams-sister-blocks-elections-officials-from-challenging-voters-who-live-outside-of-registered-district\/\" title=\"WOW! In recent years, some have looked to Barry to\u200d bolster \u2064their arguments about the alleged unfitness for office of the former president \u2014 arguments Barry gave weight to, inadvertently, through comments she made to her niece, Mary L. Trump, that were widely publicized. In inveighing against \u200bthe then-president\u2019s\u2062 tweeting and lack of preparation, Barry\u2019s \u2062private remarks were \u200chardly a bombshell and today register as little more than the casual conversation of a spitfire\u2063 sibling \u2014 evidently a family trait.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Barry \u200bseems to have been fully engaged in \u200bthe Trump family: She served as \u2064the officiant at the fourth marriage of \u200bDonald Trump\u2019s ex-wife, Ivana, and she was present at her brother\u2019s inauguration. Her hairdo, mien, and even\u200b some of her opinions on political correctness each called to mind her brother. In a 1992 article in\u200b the New York Times, speaking in the shadow of the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings, she was quoted as \u2064objecting to equating \u201cevery sexy joke of long \u2063ago\u201d with sexual harassment. Hear, hear. She characterized herself as a \u201ctraditional woman,\u201d \u2064saying, \u201cI\u200d like a little chivalry, I like to receive flowers,\u200d I\u2062 like taking \u2063care of a son and\u2064 a \u200chusband, and in my judgment, those who \u2064recoil from these things don\u2019t know \u200cwhat they\u2019re\u200b missing.\u201d When a man says something offensive, Barry sensibly\u2062 counsels women to ask why the offending man was a jerk or hadn\u2019t grown up rather than using the \u201catom bomb.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What can be said except that Maryanne and \u200cDonald grew up \u2063in the same\u2064 household, with the same parents, and undoubtedly absorbed many of the \u2062same values? She\u200d was known \u2062for \u2063her sharp legal mind, her diligent research, and her commitment to upholding the rule\u2063 of law. \u200bThroughout her tenure as a judge, she made rulings that reflected \u2064both her conservative principles and her belief \u2064in the importance of \u2064fairness and justice.<\/p>\n<p>One of her most notable cases came in\u200c 1998, when she ruled against the Trump \u200bOrganization in a dispute over a\u200b lease for a New Jersey casino. Despite being the sister of the organization&#8217;s CEO, Barry demonstrated her independence by ruling against her own\u2063 family, stating that the contract was &#8220;unambiguous&#8221; in favor of the opposing party. This decision showcased her integrity \u2062and \u200crefusal to let personal relationships interfere with her duty to \u200cinterpret and \u200bapply the law.<\/p>\n<p>In \u200daddition to her legal\u200d contributions, Barry was also \u200cknown for\u200d her \u200dactivism and advocacy in the \u200dlegal community. She served on\u2063 various\u2062 committees \u200cand boards, including the Federal Judges Association and the U.S. Judicial Conference. She was passionate about fostering dialogue and collaboration among her\u200d colleagues, and she was often called upon to give \u2062speeches and presentations on important legal topics.<\/p>\n<p>Maryanne Trump Barry leaves behind \u2062a legacy of\u200d excellence and achievement.
