White House national security adviser Jake\u200b Sullivan; and former White House chief of staff <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biography.com\/political-figures\/ron-klain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ron Klain<\/a>, who served \u200das Biden\u2019s chief\u2062 of staff when he was\u200b vice\u200d president.<\/p>\n<p>The classified documents Biden had reportedly \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/01\/12\/biden-classified-documents-timeline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stemmed from \u2062his time<\/a> as vice president during the Obama \u2064administration\u2062 and from \u200bhis time\u200d as a \u2062U.S. senator from\u200d Delaware.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden Justice Department has charged the Democrat president\u2019s\u2062 political rival,\u2063 former GOP President Donald Trump, with mishandled classified materials.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/timeline-special-counsels-investigation-trumps-handling-classified-documents\/story?id=101768329\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">June<\/a>, special counsel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jack-smith-secret-meeting-trumps-lawyers-ahead-dc-indictment-book\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jack\u2062 Smith<\/a> hit Trump with \u200ca <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/extensive-communications-trump-drops-bombshell-evidence-biden-wh-jack-smith-classified-docs-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">37-count indictment<\/a> regarding the handing of classified documents and allegedly obstructing \u200cthe FBI\u2019s investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The charges came following \u2062an FBI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/full-search-warrant-property-receipts-mar-lago-raid-released\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raid of Mar-a-Lago<\/a> in August 2022.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/going-convictions-donald-trump-election-alan-dershowitz-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump<\/a> \u200bhas argued that as president, he\u2062 had full authority to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/huge-development-standing-order-trump-years-might-just-turn-mar-lago-raid-upside\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> declassify any documents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He posted on \u200dTruth Social following the FBI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-fbi-lists-11-sets-classified-documents-recovered-mar-lago-raid-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raid<\/a>, \u201cNumber \u2063one, it was all declassified.\u2063 Number two, they didn\u2019t need to \u2018seize\u2019 \u2062anything. They could have had it anytime they wanted without playing politics and breaking into Mar-a-Lago.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was \u200bin secured storage, with an additional lock put on as per their request,\u201d Trump said. \u201cThey could have had it anytime they wanted \u2014 and\u200b that includes LONG ago.\u200b ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS ASK.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Unlike Trump, Biden\u2064 did not have the authority to declassify \u2064documents, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/factcheck\/2023\/01\/17\/fact-check-biden-had-authority-declassify-vice-president\/11065345002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">except<\/a> those documents he classified\u200d himself as vice president.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2063Journal noted that Biden supporters \u200csay a\u2064 distinction between the Democrat president\u2019s and Trump\u2019s cases is that Biden quickly turned the materials in question over once it\u200d was discovered he had\u200b them, and \u2062he has been more cooperative with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fbi-swarms-small-town-swat-team-armored-vehicles-search-jan-6-suspect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FBI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep.
