However, Republicans currently hold control over the governorship, secretary of state, attorney\u2062 general&#8217;s office, and state legislature\u2063 in Nebraska. They have already \u200denacted laws banning abortions beyond \u206212 weeks gestation and prohibiting mail-order abortion pills.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed amendment\u2064 by these organizations threatens to eliminate Nebraska&#8217;s ability \u200dto limit abortions to 15 weeks, despite the fact that \u2064a majority of Americans support such restrictions. It also seeks to remove important safeguards such as mandatory waiting periods, parental consent laws, and bans on mailed chemical\u200b abortifacients.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the amendment leaves the definition of &#8220;viability&#8221; in the hands of abortionists, potentially excluding babies who \u200drequire \u2063extraordinary medical measures\u2064 to survive outside the womb. \u2062It also includes a broad exception for abortions deemed necessary to protect the &#8220;health&#8221; of the pregnant patient, which could be interpreted to include financial, emotional, \u2064familial, mental, or other reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Nebraska Republicans and \u200dthe Pro-Life Coalition must act\u2062 swiftly to combat these efforts \u200cand counter the lies \u2064and deception surrounding\u2064 this ballot fight. The\u2064 corporate media is already portraying\u2063 the Nebraska proposal \u2063as a victory for abortion\u200d activists \u2063in a Republican-controlled state.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nebraska&#8217;s law currently\u2064 allows abortion throughout the first 12 weeks \u200bof pregnancy, but that isn&#8217;t enough for the abortion industry \u2062and\u2064 activists who are trying to write second- and third-trimester abortions into our constitution. They claim that women\u2064 should \u2062have \u200bthe right to make\u2062 decisions about their own bodies, including the choice to terminate a pregnancy, at any point during gestation.\u200c However, opponents of this viewpoint argue that this unrestricted access to\u200c abortion disregards the rights and \u2062value of the \u2063unborn child.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed amendment would not only allow for abortion throughout the entire\u2062 nine months of pregnancy but \u200dwould also \u200dremove any restrictions or regulations on the procedure. Rather \u200cthan working within the established\u200c legislative process \u2064and respecting\u2063 the democratic will of \u200bthe people, these activists\u2062 aim to bypass Republican \u2063lawmakers and embed their\u200c ideology directly into state constitutions. This approach undermines the democratic process and disenfranchises those who hold opposing views.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood and its allies are well aware\u2063 of\u200d the uphill battle\u2064 they face in Nebraska. With Republican control over \u2062the government and the prevailing\u200b pro-life sentiment in the state, it is unlikely that their\u2062 proposal will gain sufficient support. However,\u200d the purpose of their petition may extend beyond immediate success.
