This bill, which received support from Democrats in the\u200c House, faced criticism from some Republicans \u200dfor its lack of spending cuts and maintenance \u200bof the status quo.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cKeeping the government is a good \u2063outcome, \u200cof course, \u2064but we have a \u200clot more work to do after Thanksgiving,\u201d said Senate Majority Leader \u200cChuck Schumer (D-NY) in a speech \u200cafter\u2062 the vote. \u201cI know both sides genuinely care about approving aid to \u200bIsrael and Ukraine and helping innocent civilians in Gaza. \u2064So I hope we can come to an \u2064agreement even if neither side gets everything they insist\u200c on.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In \u2063the House, the stopgap spending bill passed with a majority of 336-95,\u2062 with support from\u2062 both Democrats and Republicans. Schumer praised the House for\u200b not working\u2063 with the \u201chard right\u201d and voting to continue government \u200cfunding.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cObviously, the Republican-led House needed Democratic votes to avoid a shutdown, and I was pleased to see that \u200bthe speaker was \u2063willing to work with Democrats and resisted the siren song of the hard right in the House,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd if that\u2064 continues, we can avoid further shutdowns and finish the work of funding\u200d the government.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ten Senate Republicans and Colorado Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet voted against\u2062 the bill. The Republicans who voted\u2063 against it were Sen. Marsha Blackburn (TN), Sen.\u200b Mike Braun (IN), Sen. Mike Crapo (ID), Sen. Mike Lee (UT), Sen. Markwayne Mullin (OK), Sen. Rand Paul (KY), \u2062Sen. James Risch (ID), Sen. Eric Schmitt (MO),\u200d Sen. Rick Scott (FL), and Sen. J.D. Vance (OH).<\/p>\n<p>An amendment by Sen. Rand Paul to cut spending and funding for\u200d the\u2062 IRS was defeated 65-32.
