The \u200cimpact \u200don his mental health is unspeakable,&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Corbetts had been\u2062 living in Afghanistan since 2010, dedicating themselves to humanitarian projects in Kabul. Ryan Corbett \u2062even established a business consulting and microfinance company in\u200b 2017. When\u200d the Taliban seized control in August 2021, they \u200bevacuated the country along with U.S. troops. However, Ryan returned in January 2022 without any issues, only to be detained in August of the \u200bsame year alongside\u2062 a European colleague and two local partners. While the others were\u2062 eventually released, Ryan remained in captivity.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;What \u200dlittle we do know about Ryan \u200chas come from other Western citizens who have been released. Ryan is being held in a 3-by-3-meter [9-by-9-foot] basement \u200bcell with other Western detainees. He eats little,\u2063 other than\u2064 scraps of greasy goat and fat. He is held in solitary confinement for\u200c weeks at a time,&#8221; she \u2062added. &#8220;My husband was trying \u2064to do a good thing for the people\u200d of\u200c Afghanistan. Now he is suffering and so are we. We know that \u2063the U.S. and Afghanistan cannot move forward while American citizens are being wrongfully detained for political ends.\u2062 I promise you that my family will not stop advocating for\u200b Ryan until\u200b he is \u200breleased.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Taliban officials \u2063have expressed a desire to secure the release of Muhammad Rahim al Afghani,\u2063 who has been held at Guantanamo Bay since 2008. However, a senior U.S. official dismissed\u200b this request as unrealistic, stating that it is not \u200da genuine demand.<\/p>\n<p>In \u2062September 2022, the U.S. and the Taliban reached a \u2064prisoner exchange agreement, resulting in the release of U.S. Navy veteran Mark\u200c Frerichs in exchange for Afghan\u2062 leader Bashir Noorzai, who \u2064had been imprisoned in the U.S. \u200cfor alleged drug smuggling.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> What\u2062 are the rights and protections normally afforded to prisoners of war, and why is it concerning that Ryan is not receiving them?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  S a prisoner of \u200cwar and will be treated \u200bas such, with \u2063no rights \u200dor protections,&#8221; Anna shared tearfully. &#8220;I can&#8217;t even begin to describe \u2062the\u200b anguish and\u200c helplessness I feel knowing that my husband is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/not-again-biden-compares-losing-his-son-to-israelis-who-had-family-slaughtered-by-terrorists\/\" title=\"Biden's Pain: Comparing Son's Loss to Israeli Tragedy\">enduring unimaginable pain<\/a> and \u2063suffering every day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ryan \u200dCorbett, a dedicated humanitarian worker, was working in Afghanistan when he was\u2064 taken hostage \u200dby the Taliban.
