But there \u200bis\u200d no \u2062misunderstanding. \u2062This is a well-coordinated\u2064 partisan \u200bscheme aimed at destroying the court&#8217;s legitimacy.<\/p>\n<p>It all starts with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/by-caving-to-chuck-schumer-scotus-only-incentivizes-more-attacks\/\" title=\"By Caving To Chuck Schumer, SCOTUS Only Incentivizes More Attacks\">wealthy \u200danti-court groups\u2064 conjuring flimsy accusations<\/a>\u2063 that crumble under scrutiny. These accusations are\u200c then \u2062peddled to accommodating partisan \u2062outlets, \u200dsome of which \u2062are already on the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/30\/propublicas-smearing-of-conservative-justices-is-part-of-the-lefts-ploy-to-destroy-the-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">payroll<\/a>, creating the illusion \u2062of widespread reporting. The media \u2062then amplifies these baseless\u200c claims with verbose pseudojournalism and polished production.<\/p>\n<p>But beneath the veneer of professionalism, \u2064each\u2064 new \u200dstory \u2062is more absurd than the \u200clast. Clarence Thomas\u200d is \u2063criticized for vacationing with wealthy friends, \u2063sharing\u2062 meals with former clerks, having a wife\u200d with her own opinions, \u200band \u200bbelonging to an\u2064 organization that\u200c provides scholarships to underprivileged students. All the \u200doriginalist justices \u2062have \u2063been targeted, \u2062but \u200dThomas, in \u200dparticular, faces a special disdain for\u200d daring\u2064 to defy the left&#8217;s racial stereotypes and \u2063showing contempt for a media that has\u2062 been trying to destroy him for decades.<\/p>\n<p>However, none of \u2062these stories come \u2063close to demonstrating any conflict of interest. None \u2064show Thomas or any other justice deviating from their\u200b long-held judicial philosophy for personal gain.<\/p>\n<p>But for the contemporary left, which demands the court \u2064bend to their partisan impulses rather than the law, the \u200creal problem lies in the\u200c consistency \u2064of originalists. \u200bJust recall Chuck Schumer&#8217;s threatening rhetoric towards two sitting justices during a \u200bpro-abortion \u200dprotest in front of the Supreme \u200bCourt. The \u2062same \u2063people \u2062who\u200c condemn \u2062any\u200c perceived attack on judges by Donald Trump were perfectly fine with Schumer&#8217;s menacing\u2062 words, actively \u200dcontributing to the \u2063erosion of the \u200bcourt&#8217;s reputation\u2062 and legitimacy.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer has\u2064 no constitutional power to\u200c dictate the court&#8217;s ethics policy, just as the court has no authority to dictate Senate\u2064 rules. It \u2063doesn&#8217;t matter what Schumer thinks is a good start \u2062or \u2064not. Justices are granted\u200c lifetime appointments precisely to ensure their independence. Chief Justice \u200dRoberts should have\u2063 firmly rejected \u200bSchumer&#8217;s demands.\u2064 Instead,\u2063 he succumbed to bullying, revealing his \u2063unhealthy deference to politicians.<\/p>\n<p>Now, \u200cthe rest \u200dof \u2062the media\u200b will seize on\u200c the opportunity to report on a Supreme Court supposedly &#8220;embroiled in\u200c an ethics\u2064 scandal,&#8221;\u200b further damaging an institution they \u200dhave spent years undermining\u200b with deceitful\u200c activism. Crooked\u2062 senators like Dick Durbin and Sheldon Whitehouse will exploit this situation to push their \u2064own agendas, claiming that &#8220;something needs to be done.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>All Chief Justice Roberts has achieved is creating the perception that justices have acted dishonorably. This will only incentivize more hit pieces \u2063and more demands from Democrats.
