It\u200b sounds like a nightmare, but\u2063 for Alessia Di \u2062Virgilio,\u2062 it was a shocking reality.<\/p>\n<p>Di Virgilio, who uses a wheelchair and a ventilator,\u2064 had her distressing encounter with an Air Canada crew captured on film, as\u2062 reported by the U.K. \u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-12725979\/air-canada-blasted-bad-service-disabled.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Mail<\/a>. \u200cThis \u200dincident occurred after the same supposedly\u2062 helpful crew dropped a lift\u200b on her \u2062head.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was just such an\u200c overwhelming experience&#8230; I just kind of shut down from there,&#8221; Di Virgilio shared.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is \u2062just one of\u2063 the many incidents that have forced the top executives of privately-owned Air\u2063 Canada to face the Canadian \u2064federal government. They have been summoned to address \u200cnumerous\u200c complaints regarding the mistreatment of disabled \u2064passengers. Some\u200d of these cases have been even more severe \u200bthan Di Virgilio&#8217;s, with\u2063 one resulting in a tragic death.<\/p>\n<p>Harish Pant, an \u200b83-year-old man, boarded an \u2063Air Canada flight in \u2062Delhi. During the journey, he fell seriously ill, experiencing excruciating chest\u2063 and back \u200cpain, vomiting, loss of bowel control, and the inability to\u2064 stand. When Pant&#8217;s daughter, Shanu Pande, pleaded\u2062 with the cabin \u2062crew to divert the plane, they callously chose to ignore her. The flight continued as \u2063scheduled, landing nine hours later. Paramedics met Pant upon arrival, but he \u200dtragically passed away \u200bunder their care.<\/p>\n<p>Pande, speaking to Go Public and as reported by the \u2062Daily Mail, said, &#8220;He was at \u200dthe mercy of the\u200b pilot and Air Canada people. They were inhumane and callous.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She holds\u200b the \u200dairline \u2064responsible for her\u200d father&#8217;s death, a\u2062 claim that Air Canada representative Peter Fitzpatrick vehemently denies, despite expressing sympathy. \u200cPant&#8217;s family is now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/candy-or-cannabis-new-study-warns-of-edibles-in-copycat-packaging\/\" title=\"Candy Or Cannabis? According to the Daily Mail, &#8220;the incident was investigated\u2062 by the Canadian Transportation Agency and&#8230; the airline said it violated Canadian disability regulations in his case.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In response to the numerous complaints from the disabled community, Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau\u200b acknowledges \u2063that his airline has \u200dfailed many of \u200cits customers. He promises to make improvements, including changes\u2064 in \u200dequipment and practices. However, he should also reconsider his use of vouchers as compensation, as the monetary value attached to them is rather\u200c insulting, ranging from $500 to $1,000.<\/p>\n<p>One of the individuals who \u200dreceived \u2063such inadequate compensation is Rodney Hodgins, who\u2064 suffers from cerebral palsy. He was forced to drag himself down the\u2064 aisle of an Air Canada \u2062plane when \u200cthe crew failed to provide assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian Minister of Transport\u200c Pablo Rodriguez agrees\u2063 with Rousseau, emphasizing that Air Canada must do \u2062better for all passengers. &#8220;All Canadians must be treated with dignity \u200dand\u2063 respect. Full\u2062 stop,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n<p>These sentiments align with the recent ratings of the airline by Skytrax and Trustpilot. Skytrax, which evaluates &#8220;airline quality,&#8221; gave\u200b Air Canada a score of 4\/10\u200b based on\u200d 2,309 reviews. Trustpilot\u2064 was even less generous, awarding them a rating \u200cof 1.4 based on 593 reviews. Fees are now \u200dattached to \u2062every\u2063 courtesy that was\u2064 once\u200b complimentary, ticket prices\u200d have skyrocketed (according to <a href=\"https:\/\/cuencahighlife.com\/flying-used-to-be-glamorous-and-fun-what-happened\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CuencaHighLife<\/a>, they\u2063 have increased 8-11 times), legroom has diminished,\u2062 delays are \u200bexcessive, flights are overbooked, connections are missed, cancellations are \u2063relentless, pilot shortages\u2063 occur, luggage gets lost, planes \u2064are worn-out, flight staff and airport personnel are rude\u2064 and unprofessional, and airports are \u2064dirty and dilapidated.<\/p>\n<p>The demand has surpassed the airlines&#8217; capabilities. They have\u200d mismanaged \u200btheir resources, including allocating excessive funds to top-heavy salaries.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the burden\u2062 of \u2063this mismanagement falls on the consumers. Even \u2062if you purchase insurance to protect yourself, the coverage\u200d is limited, and the fine\u200d print is extensive. It&#8217;s a gamble whether you&#8217;ll ever\u2064 receive any compensation when filing a claim.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that\u200c the \u200cbottom line is the only thing that matters to\u200c the airline industry. They rely on the fact that consumers will\u2064 continue\u200d to accept\u2064 their subpar service because they \u200bbelieve\u200d we have\u2063 no other choice. So, if they \u200dset new records for delays in 2023\u2063 (as noted by \u200bthe Bureau of Transport\u200c Statistics and reported by the\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-12730425\/US-airlines-set-worst-year-1M-departures-delayed-far-2023-nearly-QUARTER-flights-fueling-holiday-chaos-fears.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily\u200d Mail<\/a>), \u200dthey don&#8217;t seem to care. \u200dIt doesn&#8217;t matter that nearly a quarter of all U.S. flights have been delayed \u2062this \u200byear.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2062 know that consumers will continue to fly. Just think back to last year&#8217;s Christmas season and the\u2063 chaos caused by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/buttigieg-wags-finger-southwest-flight-cancellations-twitter-user-documents-part-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Southwest \u200dAirlines<\/a> cancellations. Despite the mass cancellations, Southwest remains \u200cone of the four dominant airlines \u2064alongside\u200d Delta, American, and United.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, be prepared to arrive at the airport four hours in\u200c advance, expect\u2063 to be patted down \u2062like a terrorist\u200b while others walk through security unscathed at the border, and hope that you reach \u2062your \u200bdestination within \u200cthe 24-hour window specified on your ticket. Avoid connecting flights \u2063if possible.
