Nothing\u2064 \u2014 nothing \u2014 in the way the case has played out so far indicates Smith and his team are remotely\u2064 interested in a fair trial or the \u201cfair administration of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What Smith wants is a conviction of Trump that would effectively remove President Joe Biden\u2019s most influential political opposition\u200d from \u200bthe field \u2014 \u200dthe\u2064 same motivation that\u2019s behind the legal warfare being waged against Trump \u2062in \u200bNew\u200c York, in Florida and in Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>The case against Trump in\u2064 D.C. stems from his alleged role\u2062 in instigating the Capitol incursion of Jan. 6, 2021. He\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-grand-jury-makes-decision-trump-indictment-jan-6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">charged with<\/a> conspiracy to defraud the United States, \u2063conspiracy to \u200dobstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and\u200b conspiracy against rights.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2064 Trump team\u2019s filing Friday was not completely unexpected.<\/p>\n<p>Back in August, \u200bhis attorney, John Lauro \u200b\u2014 the author of the motion \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-lawyer-make-ingenious-request-trial-take-curtain-away-americans-get-see-happening\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">made an argument<\/a> on the Fox News program \u2062\u201cAmerica Reports\u201d that cameras would be warranted in the \u200dcourtroom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u2062first thing we\u200c would ask for is, let\u2019s have cameras in the courtroom so all Americans can see what\u2019s happening in our criminal justice system,\u201d he told host John\u2064 Roberts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd \u2064I\u2062 would hope the Department of Justice would join in that effort so that we take the curtain away and all Americans get to \u2063see what\u2019s happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the language in the motion\u200b was extraordinary, coming from a former United States president\u2019s lawyers. It\u2019s \u2063a document that reads more like a political\u2064 broadside than\u200c a dry legal brief \u2014 and it suits the\u200d blatantly political \u200cnature of the prosecution\u2063 perfectly.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAware that its charges \u200dare meritless, \u200dthe prosecution has sought to proceed in \u200csecret, forcing the nation and the world to \u200brely on biased, secondhand accounts coming \u2063from the Biden Administration and its media allies,\u201d it declares.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a\u2064 result, the citizens of our great country are unable to review for themselves what the \u200dfacts of this case show, and how unfairly President Trump is being treated at\u200b the \u200chands of his political \u200copponent \u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u200dprosecution wishes to continue this travesty\u2064 in darkness. \u200bPresident Trump calls for sunlight.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The motion alludes to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/explosive-report-judge-trump-jan-6-case-previously-said-open-court-guilty-crimes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chutkan\u2019s obvious bias<\/a> against Trump and her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/federal-appeals-court-hands-trump-win-pauses-gag-order-election-interference-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gag order<\/a> preventing Trump from speaking publicly\u2062 about the trial.<\/p>\n<p>It declares the case \u201chas\u2064 all the unfortunate badges of a trial in an authoritarian regime, lacking legitimacy or due process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then it drops\u200c the\u2062 bomb of a conclusion:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, the Court should grant the Motions and allow the movants to broadcast \u200dthe proceedings of this matter in order to ensure that the American public can see the bare truth \u2062of\u2062 this case, witness the\u200c Biden Administration\u2019s wrongful acts, and hear all the evidence regarding an election that President Trump <em>believes was rigged and stolen.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What\u2019s important here is that Trump\u2019s legal team is asking for nothing more than what House Democrats and Nancy Pelosi\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-legal-team-flips-the-script-on-jack-smith-demands-the-travesty-of-his-trial-be-shown-to-all-americans\/\" title=\"Trump Legal Team Flips the Script on Jack Smith; Demands the 'Travesty' of His Trial Be Shown to All Americans\">ludicrously biased committee \u2062investigating<\/a> the Capitol incursion \u2063tried to do.<\/p>\n<p>The committee, remember, took to the airwaves in primetime in a vain attempt to convince the country that what occurred that day was an \u201cinsurrection,\u201d convict Trump\u2063 in the\u200b court of public\u200d opinion of being the man behind it, and remove him \u200bas a force in American politics.<\/p>\n<p>That didn\u2019t work, as\u2062 is clear from \u200bTrump\u2019s commanding lead in\u200d the Republican primary polls.<\/p>\n<p>What Democrats have to fear \u2014 from Joe Biden to\u2062 Jack Smith \u2064and all around the country \u2014 is that Americans seeing a show trial like the one that\u2019s scheduled to occur in a \u200cD.C. \u200ccourtroom right at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/judge-sets-trumps-trial-date-1-day-biggest-primary-event-2024-defense-team-immediately-realizes-happening\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the most important\u2063 point<\/a> in \u2064the primary calendar are going to understand just\u2062 how corrupt the Justice Department has become under the Biden administration.<\/p>\n<p>Even if, as is almost certain,\u00a0 Chutkan decides against \u2064cameras in the courtroom, Trump\u2019s legal\u2062 team has\u2063 made the\u200c point.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats wanted the country to \u200bsee Trump as \u2064guilty with\u2064 televised Jan. 6 committee hearings.<\/p>\n<p>What they\u2019re most\u200c afraid of is that a televised trial in D.C. will show how innocent he is.
