Benny Gantz, a member of Netanyahu\u2019s war Cabinet, said the journalists who\u2064 were there at the massacre and \u201cstill chose to stand as \u200bidle bystanders while children were slaughtered \u2014\u200c are \u200bno different than terrorists and should be treated as such.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Journalists found \u200dto have known about the massacre, and still chose to stand\u2062 as idle bystanders while children were\u200c slaughtered \u2013 are no different than terrorists and \u2062should be treated as such.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u200c \u05d1\u05e0\u05d9 \u05d2\u05e0\u05e5 \u2064\u2013 Benny Gantz (@gantzbe) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gantzbe\/status\/1722535046400061853?\">November 9, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On Thursday, Reuters, AP, \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/kevin-mccarthy-tells-cnn-2-colleagues-no-longer-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> and the Times vehemently denied any prior knowledge of the attacks and rejected \u2063the allegations against \u2064their freelancers.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters that it had acquired photos from \u2064two Gaza-based freelance photographers who were at the border\u2062 on the morning of October \u20637 and with whom they did not have a prior\u2064 relationship. They specified that \u2063their \u200bstaff journalists were not on the ground during the attacks. They added that the\u200c photographs they published were taken after Israel reported gunmen crossing the border.<\/p>\n<p>The AP also \u200ddenied any prior knowledge of the Oct. 7 attacks, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/11\/09\/media\/news-outlets-deny-prior-knowledge-of-hamas-attack\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>, saying\u200d the first pictures it received from \u2064freelancers were taken more than \u2064an hour after the attacks had begun.<\/p>\n<p>The wire \u200bservice also announced that it was \u201cno longer working\u200c with\u201d Hassan Eslaiah, a freelance photographer named in the \u2063Honest Reporting article who has been \u2064photographed being kissed by Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">And here is footage of\u2063 Eslaiah after he crossed into Israel \u2062and took photos of a burning\u200b Israeli tank. He then captured\u2064 infiltrators entering Kibbutz Kfar \u2062Azza.<\/p>\n<p>Note that \u2062he is \u2064not identifiable as a member \u200dof the press. But \u200dAP &#038; CNN deemed it acceptable to use\u200b his services. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fA0VI2df2i\">pic.twitter.com\/fA0VI2df2i<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 HonestReporting (@HonestReporting) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HonestReporting\/status\/1722374182246179217?\">November 8, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytco.com\/press\/statement-on-yousef-masoud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Times<\/a> described the accusations \u2062as \u201cuntrue and outrageous\u201d and emphasized the essential\u2063 role of freelance photojournalists in conflict zones, defending its dedication\u2063 to providing firsthand witness accounts and documenting crucial\u2064 news.<\/p>\n<p>It said Yousef Masoud, one of the other journalists accused in the Honest Reporting article, \u200d\u201cwas not working for The Times on the day of the attack\u201d but had done \u201cimportant work\u201d for the newspaper \u200cin the past.<\/p>\n<p>A CNN representative also \u200ddenied any prior \u2063knowledge of the Oct. 7 attacks and said Eslaiah was \u201cnot working for the network on October \u20647th.\u201d The network also announced the termination of its\u200d ties with Eslaiah.<\/p>\n<p>The media, often referred to as the \u201cfourth estate,\u201d plays a crucial role in democracy as a watchdog of the government and \u2064other powerful institutions. Once-sacrosanct ethical boundaries between journalism and\u2062 activism are now hazy and ill-defined.
