Let’s stop pretending.”

Minaj also opens ⁢up about ⁤her recent breast reduction, expressing her contentment with her decision. She reflects on how⁤ she used to desire a larger⁣ butt but now realizes the silliness⁢ of that desire. Minaj encourages embracing ⁢both curves and non-curves, emphasizing that there is nothing wrong with ‌any body type.

This message stands ‌in stark‌ contrast to the one ‍promoted by Lizzo, another influential black female artist in‌ the music industry. Lizzo‍ has ⁢made “body positivity” a central theme of ⁣her⁢ career, ‍often glorifying obesity through her social media presence and performances.

In⁣ April, Lizzo partnered⁣ with Dove soap ⁤for their self-esteem project, despite Dove’s corporate campaign to “end⁤ body size discrimination.”⁤ This partnership raises questions about the conflicting messages being sent.

Lizzo‌ has faced criticism for her activism, including rapper‍ Kanye West’s remark that promoting ⁢obesity is “demonic.” Lizzo responded ⁤defiantly, asserting that she is focused on her⁣ own business and⁣ dismissing the criticism.

However, ⁢Lizzo’s⁢ activism does little ⁣to help those struggling with unhealthy weight ⁢or address the health disparities faced by black Americans. According to the Centers for Disease Control, black adults have the highest prevalence of obesity and diabetes.

In contrast, Minaj’s⁣ commitment to making healthy⁣ choices for her family demonstrates a⁢ genuine effort to fight for black lives. Celebrities like Lizzo ⁤have ‌been praised for their confidence and‍ celebration of their bodies, regardless of societal standards. However, Minaj argues that this celebration should not overshadow the⁤ importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Minaj emphasizes the need for individuals, especially those‍ in marginalized‍ communities, to ⁢take responsibility for their health. “We can’t ignore ⁣the fact that obesity is a serious issue,” Minaj asserts. “We should be encouraging⁤ each other to‌ make healthier choices, not promoting a lifestyle that leads to health complications.”

The rapper’s stance has sparked mixed reactions, with some applauding her for ⁣addressing⁢ the potential harmful effects of the body positivity movement.
