From Jimmy Stewart to Paul Newman, Charles \u200dBronson to Humphrey Bogart, and \u200cCharlton Heston, these stars became American institutions and \u2064portrayed tough-guy heroes \u200bon screen. However, there are\u2064 other\u2064 stars who may not be known\u200b for their on-screen\u200d bravado but\u200b have also served in the military. On Veterans Day, it&#8217;s important to recognize their contributions.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Rob Riggle<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Rob\u200c Riggle, the veteran SNL funnyman, has become a constant comedy presence in shows like &#8220;Modern Family&#8221; and movies like &#8220;Step Brothers&#8221; and \u2064&#8221;The Hangover.&#8221; But before diving into his breakneck pace in the \u200bentertainment\u200b industry, Riggle served 23 years with the U.S. Marines. His service included \u200dactive-duty years in Liberia, Afghanistan, Kosovo,\u2062 and Albania. Riggle has spoken about \u2062how invaluable his time \u200bin\u2062 the military was to his personal growth, saying, &#8220;They pushed me \u200bbeyond\u2063 my perceived limits&#8230; so whatever I thought I was capable of, the Marines said, &#8216;Actually, you \u200bcan \u200ddo a whole lot \u2064more when pushed.&#8217; And they \u200bwere\u2062 right.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2><b>Adam Driver<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Adam Driver, known\u200b for his intense performances, including his upcoming role in\u200b the Michael Mann drama &#8220;Ferrari,&#8221; signed up to defend his country shortly after the 9\/11 terrorist attacks. He\u200d has expressed pride in his military service, calling it one of \u2063the things he&#8217;s\u2062 most proud of in his life. Driver served nearly three years\u2064 before a mountain bike injury \u200bforced him \u200cto accept\u2063 a medical discharge. \u2064Despite his desire \u200cto serve overseas in Iraq, he couldn&#8217;t due to the injury.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Drew Carey<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Drew Carey, the wisecracking host of &#8220;The \u200cPrice Is Right,&#8221; has routinely supported the men and women of the \u200cU.S. Armed Forces. He served \u2064his \u200bcountry for six years as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-u-s-can-beat-russia-in-ukraine-without-firing-a-shot\/\" title=\"The U.S. Can Beat Russia in Ukraine Without Firing a Shot\">field radio operator<\/a> with the 25th Marine Regiment in Ohio, eventually attaining the rank of sergeant. Initially trained as a finance clerk, Sajak\u2062 later found his calling as a DJ for the American Forces Vietnam Network. Although he felt some shame\u2064 attached to his &#8220;soft&#8221; service,\u2064 Sajak took solace in the\u2062 positive reaction from fellow soldiers who appreciated \u2062his broadcasts for making \u2064them feel closer to home.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Mel Brooks<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Mel Brooks, one of the funniest men \u200dalive, lived through the Battle \u2062of the\u200b Bulge.\u200c Drafted into the Army in 1944, Brooks helped clear the battlefield of land \u200bmines \u200bto allow Allied soldiers to \u200bpush forward. He even saw combat during his\u200c service. Brooks would\u200d go \u200don to use his comedic talents \u2064to satirize the Third Reich in his classic comedy &#8220;The Producers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These stars, along with many others, have not only entertained us but also made significant \u2063contributions to the U.S.\u2062 Armed Forces. While he may be known for his political career, Buttigieg \u2062also served in the U.S. Navy Reserve. \u200cHe\u2064 enlisted\u200d in 2009 and served \u200bas an intelligence officer in Afghanistan for seven months in 2014.
