Al D\u2019Amato told\u200d the Post.<\/p>\n<p>He\u200c explained, \u201cThe borders are in chaos.\u2063 There\u2019s\u2062 nothing for Democrats to come and vote for. And\u200b those who are coming to vote are voting for\u200d Republicans in local races.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former GOP Congressman Lee Zeldin, who \u200dlost in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-paint-long-island-completely-red-this-is-a-political-earthquake\/\" title=\"Republicans Paint Long Island Completely Red: 'This Is a Political Earthquake'\">surprisingly close\u200d race<\/a> to Democrat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-msnbc-anchor-gives-kathy-hochul-earful-face-crime-nyc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gov. Kathy Hochul<\/a> last year, told the Post, \u201cYou\u2019ve got independents and blanks [not registered with a party] voting\u200c Republican. You\u2019re even seeing Democrats voting Republican.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe electorate is not happy with what they see coming out of the city. There are issues\u2062 like the migrant crisis and cashless bail,\u201d added Zeldin, who campaigned with candidates throughout the\u2064 Empire State\u200d this \u2062election cycle.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7ny.com\/lee-zeldin-long-island-shooting-shirley-home-zelden\/12308913\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Long Island resident<\/a>, who is Jewish, said\u2064 the rising <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fox-news-regular-breaks-really-hard-jewish-parent-right-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">antisemitism<\/a> sit the outbreak of\u2063 the \u200cIsraeli-Hamas war is also \u2062\u201cwaking up the electorate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lawrence\u200b Levy, dean of Hofstra University\u2019s \u2064National\u2063 Center for Suburban Studies, noted, \u201cLong Island for now\u2063 is defiantly returning to its red roots.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Looking beyond New\u2063 York, there were other bright spots for \u2063Republicans, despite not \u2063winning the Kentucky \u200bgovernor\u2019s\u200d race and losing the Virginia House \u200cof Delegates to Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Some were also surprised how \u2063close Mississippi GOP \u200dGov. Andy Beshear \u2063is \u2063the son of former Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear, who <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Steve_Beshear\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">handily won<\/a> two terms leaving office\u200b in December 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron\u2063 lost to Gov. Andy Beshear, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2023\/11\/07\/us\/elections\/results-kentucky.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">52.5 to 47.5 percent<\/a> Tuesday\u2063 night.<\/p>\n<p>However, the GOP swept the other statewide \u200coffices in\u2063 the Bluegrass State, including \u2064for AG and secretary of state, by over 20 percentage points each.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMississippi Gov. Tate Reeves has faced stiff\u200b opposition from within his own party. Lots of issues \u2063internally.
