Massie\u2019s \u200bmeasure received 210\u2062 \u201cno\u201d votes from Democrats and 19 from Republicans. Just two Democrats supported the amendment and 199 Republicans voted for it. Eight members did \u200dnot participate in the late-night vote.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p>\n        <span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>During debate \u200blast\u2064 night on my amendment to defund the 2026 kill-switch mandate \u200cfor cars, some Democrats claimed \u2062the technology wouldn\u2019t monitor or disable cars. Here\u2019s the actual law I had to read to them:<\/p>\n<p>My amendment failed. \u200bLink to the\u2063 roll call vote: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/YWufj9C2C3\">https:\/\/t.co\/YWufj9C2C3<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JDN1TltaDo\">pic.twitter.com\/JDN1TltaDo<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>        <\/span>\n      <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The 2021 infrastructure law passed by Congress requires car manufactures to include \u201cadvanced drunk and impaired driving prevention technology\u201d as \u201cstandard equipment\u201d in vehicles. The provision requires\u200c such technology to \u201cpassively monitor the performance of a\u2063 driver\u201d and \u201cprevent or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/infrastructure-bill-would-require-alcohol-monitors-for-all-new-cars\/\" title=\"Infrastructure Bill Would Require Alcohol Monitors for All New Cars\">limit motor vehicle operation<\/a>\u2062 if an impairment is detected.\u201d In \u2062other words, manufacturers will be required to implement a \u201ckill switch\u201d mechanism on cars that can disable the vehicle \u200cbased on performance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>[LISTEN:[LISTEN:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spreaker.com\/user\/17058220\/the-dystopic-power-grab-nobody-is-talkin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Dystopic Power Grab Nobody Is Talking About<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>USA Today sought to downplay the 2021 infrastructure bill\u2019s \u201ckill switch\u201d provision with a January \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/factcheck\/2023\/01\/19\/fact-check-false-claim-bill-mandates-kill-switch-cars-police-drunk-driving\/11066287002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fact check<\/a>\u201d labeling the\u200d warnings from Massie and\u2064 others as \u201cfalse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAutomobile\u200c experts told USA TODAY the bill does not direct a kill switch to be implemented in cars, nor does \u200dit give \u2063any third parties, including law enforcement or government officials, access to the in-vehicle technology,\u201d USA Today reported. The paper\u2019s next sentence read, \u201cRather, the bill in question directs \u200ca \u2064federal agency to require technology that would detect driver impairment and disable the vehicle in \u2063that scenario.\u201d This leaves the \u200dquestion of how all new vehicles will function up to the discretion of unelected bureaucrats in Washington,\u200c who could push manufacturers in \u200cdramatic directions.<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press also published a \u201cfact check\u201d on the issue in March last <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-help-dems-preserve-kill-switch-mandate-that-could-shut-down-your-car\/\" title=\"GOP House Members Assist Democrats in Maintaining 'Kill Switch' Requirement That May Disable Your Vehicle\">year accusing online commentators<\/a> of \u201cdistorting\u201d the law\u2019s\u200d meaning. The AP concluded\u200d the term \u201ckill switch\u201d amounts\u200c to \u201chyperbole\u201d because \u201cnone of the options being considered would include the risky move of lurching a fast-moving vehicle to \u200can abrupt \u2062stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p>\n        <span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Haha, AP \u2063fact check hinges on this: \u201cHe said the term \u2018kill switch\u2019 is hyperbole, since\u200c none of the options being considered would include the risky move of lurching a fast-moving vehicle to an abrupt stop\u201d \u200b&#038; assurances of data privacy. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5yyX1LrCFA\">https:\/\/t.co\/5yyX1LrCFA<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8EdpfJKMMt\">pic.twitter.com\/8EdpfJKMMt<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>        <\/span>\n      <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<figure>\n    <\/figure>\n<p>The introduction of a \u201ckill\u200d switch\u201d on all new vehicles coincides with a growing push among the far left\u2064 to limit freedom of movement. Often citing climate change as justification for new measures to limit transit, policymakers from California to the United Kingdom have introduced rules that would curb the use \u200cof private vehicles. On the \u200cWest Coast, the\u200c California Air Resources Board came out \u2064with \u2062new <a href=\"https:\/\/ww2.arb.ca.gov\/news\/california-moves-accelerate-100-new-zero-emission-vehicle-sales-2035#:~:text=The%20rule%20establishes%20a%20year,Order%20N%2D79%2D20.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">regulations<\/a> last summer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-dems-buy-evs-but-dont-charge-them\/\" title=\"California Dems: Buy EVs But Don\u2019t Charge Them\">ban gasoline-powered car sales<\/a> by 2035. One week later, California Gov. Gavin \u2062Newsom <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/06\/california-dems-buy-evs-but-dont-charge-them\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">begged<\/a> residents not to charge electric vehicles during a heat wave so the power grid\u200c would not become overwhelmed.<\/p>\n<p>After Massie\u2019s amendment \u200cfailed, Hillsdale Professor Matthew Meehan <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MTMehan\/status\/1722123284404158791?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">posted<\/a> on X, \u201cWaves up \u200cthe beach.
