However, the nation\u2019s constitution orders that it cannot \u2063go ahead\u2064 with the elections until \u200cany declaration of martial law is lifted, \u2063which is doubtful\u200b to\u2064 occur. The country was scheduled\u2063 to hold a parliamentary election in October.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/history\/martial-law-everything-know.html\" target=\"_blank\">Martial law<\/a> refers to \u2062the suspension of\u2062 an ordinary law, which is administered \u2062by\u200d the military.<\/p>\n<p>In Ukraine, martial\u2064 law is\u200c scheduled \u200cto\u200d end on November 15<sup>th<\/sup>. <\/p>\n<p>Zelensky initially mandated martial law \u2064on February 24<sup>th<\/sup>, 2022, which is also the day that Russian President Vladimir Putin \u2064initiated an invasion on Ukraine.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWe need to recognize that this is a time for defense,\u2063 a time for battle, upon \u200bwhich \u2062the fate of the state\u200b and its people \u2064depend\u2026 I believe that elections are not appropriate at this time,\u201d Zelensky\u200b claimed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Additionally, Ukrainian National \u2064Security and Defense Council Secretary Alexey Danilov \u2064announced that \u200c\u201cno elections can be\u200b held\u201d due to the martial law in place\u2062 in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Previous \u2062to Zelensky\u2019s announcement, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba made a statement during an online appearance at the World \u2063Policy \u2062Conference in the \u200bUnited Arab Emirates saying \u200bthat the Ukrainian president was \u201cweighing the pros and cons\u201d of \u2064racing in the election next year.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWe are not closing this page. The president of \u2062Ukraine is considering and weighing the different pros and\u2064 cons,\u201d said Kuleba.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cAnd finally, the waves of any politically divisive things must stop,\u201d \u200bhe said\u2063 Monday. \u201cWe must realize that now is \u2062the time of\u2062 defense, the time of the battle that determines the fate \u2062of the \u200bstate \u200dand\u2063 people, not the time of manipulations, which only Russia expects from\u2062 Ukraine. I \u2063believe\u200d that now is not the right time for elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cAnd if we need to \u2064put \u200can end \u200bto a political dispute and continue \u200dto work\u2062 in unity, there are structures in the\u200d state that are capable of putting an\u2063 end\u200b to\u200d it and giving society all the necessary answers. So that there\u200b is no room left for conflicts and \u200dsomeone else\u2019s game against Ukraine,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Olena Zelenska, the first lady\u2064 of Ukraine, stated\u2062 in September that she was \u201cunsure\u201d if her husband would\u200d seek\u2063 re-election in 2024.
