Fallon\/AFP via Getty\u200c Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>As\u2063 left-wing California governor Gavin Newsom quietly positions himself for \u2062a presidential bid, Golden State voters have turned on\u2063 him, with his approval rating hitting an all-time low in a recent poll.<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u2063 U.C.\u2062 Berkeley\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/escholarship.org\/uc\/item\/70c6x33k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">poll<\/a>, which was cosponsored \u2064by the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em>, only 44 percent of Californians approve of Newsom, a dramatic 11-point drop from February. Nearly 50 percent of Californians, meanwhile, disapprove of the governor, a 10-point jump.<\/p>\n<p>The governor&#8217;s decline in popularity &#8220;spans nearly\u200c every major voter\u2062 category,&#8221; including among Democrats and independents, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/politics\/story\/2023-11-07\/new-poll-finds-california-voters-disapprove-newsom-performance-governor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to the <em>Times<\/em><\/a>. His support among his fellow Democrats plunged 16 points from February.<\/p>\n<p>Newsom in recent months has turned his attention outside California, \u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/california\/truly-precious-ccp-propaganda-rag-gushes-over-gavin-newsom-amid-china-trip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">heading to China<\/a> to discuss climate change \u200dwith Communist officials and <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/latest-news\/date-set-for-gavin-newsom-ron-desantis-debate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">committing to a debate<\/a> with Republican presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis. In\u2064 March, Newsom \u2063launched his Campaign for Democracy PAC, which so far has &#8220;spent millions on Democratic strategists, nationwide ad buys, and photo-op\u200d visits to red states intended to burnish his image and build his political profile,&#8221; the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/elections\/he-would-absolutely-jump-in-the-race-gavin-newsom-positions-himself-for-presidential-run\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The PAC&#8217;s spending shows that\u2064 Newsom is &#8220;ready to jump into the presidential race should President Joe Biden choose not to seek reelection,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/were-going-to-get-slaughtered-political-observers-worried-bidens-approval-will-drag-down-dems-in-midterms-report\/\" title=\"\u2018We\u2019re Going To Get Slaughtered\u2019: Political Observers Worried Biden\u2019s Approval Will Drag Down Dems In Midterms: Report\">political observers told<\/a> the <em>Free Beacon<\/em> in August. While the 80-year-old Biden has said he is running in 2024, a staggering 71 percent of voters say he is &#8220;too old&#8221; for the\u200d presidency, according to a <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/11\/05\/us\/politics\/biden-trump-2024-poll.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">poll<\/a> released this month.<\/p>\n<p>Berkeley pollster Mark DiCamillo told the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em> that\u2063 Californians \u2063are responding to Newsom&#8217;s focus on national politics.<\/p>\n<p>Newsom is &#8220;kind of taking on a new persona,&#8221; DiCamillo\u200b said. &#8220;He&#8217;s no longer just the governor of California. He&#8217;s a spokesperson for the national party and\u200d basically voters are being asked to react to that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Back in California, 55 percent of adults say that &#8220;things in the state are going in the wrong direction,&#8221; citing jobs, the economy and inflation, and \u2062homelessness as top concerns, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ppic.org\/?show-pdf=true&#038;docraptor=true&#038;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ppic.org%2Fpublication%2Fppic-statewide-survey-californians-and-their-government-september-2023%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">separate poll<\/a> conducted by the Public Policy Institute of California.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think \u200cthe real wake-up call\u2064 is how dramatically Democrat voters seem to be\u2063 shifting underneath him,&#8221; Republican consultant Rob Stutzman told the\u200b <em>Times<\/em>. &#8220;I&#8217;m not surprised his numbers\u2064 are down. I&#8217;m surprised his numbers are down that far. He&#8217;s clearly upside down.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> What are some of the major issues that Californians\u2064 are frustrated with regarding Governor Newsom&#8217;s administration?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Ops,&#8221; according to the \u2062Times\u2063.<\/p>\n<p>While Newsom has\u200b been focused\u2064 on his own political ambitions,\u2063 his handling of key issues in California has come\u200b under scrutiny. The state has been plagued by\u2063 soaring crime \u200drates,\u2063 rampant homelessness,\u2063 and\u200d a\u200d\u200d\u200d struggling\u200d\u200d\u200d economy. Amid\u2063 widespread\u200d\u200d\u200d dissatisfaction, recall efforts\u2063 against Newsom have gained momentum,\u2063 with a recall election now scheduled for next year.<\/p>\n<p>One of the biggest factors contributing to the governor&#8217;s drop in approval rating is his\u2063 mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic.\u2063 Newsom faced backlash for\u2062 his\u200d\u200d\u200d \u200d\u200d\u200ddraconian lockdown measures,\u200d\u200d\u200d\u2063 \u2063which disproportionately impacted small businesses and infringed on personal freedoms.\u2063 \u2062His attendance at a fancy dinner party at \u2064the\u2064 French Laundry, while urging Californians to stay home, further damaged \u200bhis credibility\u2063 and undermined trust in his leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Newsom&#8217;s approval rating decline has also been accelerated by growing frustration with his administration&#8217;s failure to \u200caddress the state&#8217;s issues \u200ceffectively.
