The incident occurred while Major Gennadiy Chastiakov, 39, was celebrating his special ⁣day at home. According to Zaluzhny’s ⁣statement, an ⁤”unknown explosive device detonated‌ in one of his gifts,” resulting in Chastiakov’s untimely death and ‌injuring his son. He revealed that an ‍”unknown explosive device detonated in one of ‌his gifts.”

Zaluzhny‍ went on to shower praise upon his former aide, highlighting his invaluable contributions to the war against Russia and his unwavering dedication to the military cause. “From⁢ the beginning of ‌the full-scale‍ invasion, Gennadiy was ⁢a reliable shoulder for me, completely devoting his life to⁤ the Armed Forces of Ukraine‍ and ‌the fight against Russian⁣ aggression,” he wrote.

An investigation ⁤into the blast has been ‌initiated, as confirmed by Zaluzhny.

According ⁤to Ukrainian law enforcement sources cited by Ukrainska Pravda, Chastiakov’s widow disclosed ⁣that ‍the fatal‌ gift contained a package with a bottle of ⁤alcohol and ⁢shot glasses shaped like grenades.

Igor Klimenko, the Ukrainian minister of internal affairs,⁢ reported that the police discovered five additional live‍ grenades during their search of the apartment. The office of Chastiakov’s colleague, who had presented him with the⁣ ill-fated gift, was also thoroughly examined, leading to the discovery of two more grenades. All the ⁤grenades have been‌ collected ‍for⁢ further examination.

Based on the investigation, Klimenko explained that the explosion occurred when Chastiakov’s‌ son handed him ⁢the ⁣live grenade from the gift, accidentally pulling‍ out the safety pin in ⁢the process. ⁤This unfortunate mishap triggered the detonation.

Despite the peculiar circumstances, foul play has not been‌ immediately suspected as the ‌cause of Chastiakov’s⁣ death.

The news of the incident was met with ⁤amusement by several Russian figures. Olga Skabeeva, a pro-Kremlin television personality, responded to the story by reciting a nursery rhyme about an elephant sitting on ⁣a hedgehog.

On the‌ other hand, some individuals alleged a conspiracy.
