However, his assertions \u200bare merely liberal drivel that have been debunked many times.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I write \u2062about assault weapons \u200cmore\u2063 than I\u2019d like to. I believe their place is in the hands of law officers and our military.\u2062 I honestly don\u2019t see why anyone else\u2064 needs to have\u200d a \u2062machine gun. I\u2019m 99.999% sure that Tom Jefferson, Ben Franklin, Washington, and\u2063 the Adams boys \u200ddid not\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 James Patterson (@JP_Books) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JP_Books\/status\/1720477047921803557?\">November 3, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Firstly, \u200bthe idea that \u200bonly the police \u2062and military should have\u200b the best <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/liberal-best-selling-author-gets-schooled-after-posting-anti-2a-rant-about-guns-founding-fathers-intentions\/\" title=\"Liberal author schooled for anti-2A rant on guns and Founding Fathers.\">weaponry runs completely\u200d contrary<\/a> to the ideals of the very\u2064 founders he invokes.\u200b The founders wanted \u200dthe \u201cfarm boys\u201d of the \u2062nation to \u2062have similar \u2062power to a super-powerful government. So, allowing only cops and soldiers \u2062to \u2062have \u200dthe most up-to-date weapons is an anti-American idea.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, Patterson clearly does not know what a \u201cmachine gun\u201d\u2064 even is \u2064because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-data-behind-mass-shootings-and-why-democrat-proposals-arent-likely-to-help\/\" title=\"The Data Behind \u2018Mass Shootings,\u2019 And Why Democrat Proposals Aren\u2019t Likely To Help\">fully automatic rifles<\/a> are already effectively outlawed. The average person has no access at all to a true \u201cmachine gun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore,\u2062 Patterson&#8217;s claim that the \u200bfounders didn\u2019t \u201cforesee \u200cassault rifles\u2062 in the hands of farm boys back in the 18th\u2064 century\u201d is \u200dentirely wrong. The\u2062 founders wanted\u2063 what\u200b was at the time the top-of-the-line\u200c \u201cassault rifle\u201d in the \u2064hands of every adult who was 17 years of age \u2063and up.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2063 flintlock musket with attaching bayonet that Patterson\u2063 references was the premier military weapon of war of the day. And the founders\u2062 did not state\u2064 that they wanted people to have \u201csingle-shot muskets.\u201d They said they \u2063wanted Americans to have \u201cfirearms.\u201d They used that more generic \u2064term because they knew full well that technology would advance and so\u2063 would weapons design and manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>Others,\u200d including\u2064 talk show host\u200b Dana Loesch, quickly schooled Patterson on his misconceptions.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Well, you\u2019re 99.999% wrong. The founders would\u2019ve purchased repeating flintlocks for\u200c war except \u2063for price. \u2063Jefferson owned a Girandoni rifle later adopted by the Austrian military.
