The Democratic Congressional Campaign \u200dCommittee (DCCC) is determined to \u200cwin back these seats,\u2062 making \u200bit a rallying cry\u200b for the party.<\/p>\n<p>Six freshman New York GOP House \u2064representatives, who\u2062 won in districts carried by President\u200d Joe Biden in 2020, are seeking re-election. \u2063Their\u200b campaigns are among the seven New\u200b York House races\u200d in 2024 that Cook Political Report rates as either &#8220;toss-ups&#8221; or &#8220;lean Democratic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, there \u200cis a potential hurdle on the horizon. If \u2062the\u2063 appeal of a \u2062June ruling\u2064 by the New York Appellate \u2063Court fails, the 2022 Congressional map, which gave Republicans a 15-11 advantage over\u2064 Democrats, will be repealed. A new map will be put in\u200b place for\u200b 2024.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2><strong>Battlegrounds: Long Island,\u200b Hudson Valley<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Out of the seven key \u2062New York Congressional districts \u2062that \u2062will determine the control of \u2062the House in\u200d 2025,\u2064 three are located \u200bon Long Island and three are in the Hudson Valley. Nick LaLota (R-NY)<\/h2>\n<p>First-time candidate and \u200cNaval\u200d Academy graduate Mr. \u2063LaLota \u200dsecured more \u200bthan 55 percent\u200b of the 2022 vote to\u200c retain\u200d the seat held for four terms by Mr. Zeldin, who opted not to run for reelection in \u200dthe\u200b House to\u200b launch a bid \u2062for \u200bgovernor.<\/p>\n<p>CD\u2062 1 spans the east end of Long Island\u2019s North\u2064 Shore. It\u200b has \u2062been a swing battleground since the 1990s\u2062 and has leaned Republican since \u2062the 2010s,\u2063 although\u2062 former President\u2064 Barack Obama won the\u2063 district twice.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, \u206355.9 percent\u2064 of its \u2064registered voters were Republicans, but President Joe Biden won it by 0.2 percent. Mr. LaLota\u2019s \u20622022 results outperformed the\u200d party\u2019s \u20642020 CD 1 results by 12 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The Cook Political Report, Sabato\u2019s\u200b Crystal Ball, \u2064and Elections Daily rate the outcome\u200b of the 2024 CD\u200d 1\u2063 race\u2063 as \u201clikely \u200dRepublican.\u201d Inside Elections rates the district \u2063as\u200c \u201cLean Republican.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As \u2064of Nov. \u20632, Mr. LaLota had $1 million in campaign funds in\u200d the\u2063 bank \u200dand no\u2064 primary challenger.<\/p>\n<p>At least five Democrats have filed to vie \u2062for \u200dtheir party\u2019s nod to take \u2064on Mr. LaLota. Among them are former state Sen. Jim Gaughran, chemist and \u2064CD 1 2020 primary candidate Nancy Goroff, and attorney and\u2062 former administrative law judge Craig Herskowitz.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-figure\" style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>  Rep. George Santos (R-NY)<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Santos\u2019 odds of being \u200con the June 25 primary ballots \u200dare slim,\u200c and his chances of\u200c advancing to\u2064 November are virtually nil.<\/p>\n<p>As of Nov.\u2062 2, at least nine Republicans had\u200b filed\u200b to\u200b run\u2063 for Mr. Santos\u2019 seat representing the \u2064Long Island North \u200dShore district he flipped by defeating Democrat Robert\u200b Zimmerman in 2022 by\u200d more than 7.5 percent\u2014while Mr. Biden won \u200cthe district by 8.2\u200b percent\u2014to succeed the \u200dretiring \u200ctwo-term Rep. Tom Suozzi\u200d (D-N.Y.).<\/p>\n<p>Among\u200d party rivals\u200d lining up to vie for Santos\u2019 \u2064seat are former J.P. Morgan\u2063 vice president and U.S. Air Force veteran Kellen Curry; Bayside small business owner \u200dand Israeli Defense Forces veteran \u200bDaniel Norber; attorney and Air Force veteran Gregory Hach; former Special Operations\u200b Command Central strategic director Thomas Ludwig; businessman and retired NYPD detective Mike Sapraicone; financial\u200b executive Jim Toes;\u200c and \u200dDr. Harvey Manes.<\/p>\n<p>At least \u200bnine \u2062Democrats\u200c have also\u2062 filed to run for New \u200dYork\u2019s CD 3, including the newly un-retired Mr. Suozzi, who will take on former state \u200cSen. Anna Kaplan,\u2063 Nassau County legislator and CD\u2064 3 2022 candidate Joshua Lafazan, investment banker Scott\u2064 Livingston, nonprofit executive \u200dZak Malamed, and St. John&#8217;s University Law School professor Will \u200cMurphy, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2062Cook Political Report and \u2063Elections Daily both rate CD 3 as \u201cSolid Republican,\u201d while Sabato\u2019s Crystal Ball gives \u2062it a \u201cSafe Republican\u201d\u2062 classification. Anthony\u200d Esposito (R-NY)<\/h2>\n<p>A retired New York City Police \u200cDepartment detective and former Hempstead Town Council \u200cmember, \u200cMr. Esposito defeated fellow \u200cHempstead \u200cTown Council member Laura Gillen by 3.6 percent,\u200b less than 10,000 votes, \u200bin November 2022.<\/p>\n<p>He will \u2062likely need to \u200cdo so again in 2024 because Ms. Gillen is the heavy favorite to defeat at \u2063least\u200d four other party \u2062rivals in the Democratic CD 4 primary\u200c for a rematch.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Esposito flipped a long-held Democrat seat won in\u200c 2020 by Rep.\u200c Kathleen Rice (D-N.Y.), \u200bwho opted not \u200bto run in 2022, and helped by Rep.\u2063 Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.)\u200d for nine terms.<\/p>\n<p>Mr.\u200c Biden won the Long Island \u200dSouth\u2062 Shore Nassau County district by 14.6 percent in 2020, with Mr. Esposito\u2019s 2022 results outperforming the party\u2019s 2020 \u200bCD\u200d 4\u200c results \u200bby 18.3 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Democrats\u2019 significant\u2062 registered voter\u2062 advantage, the Cook Political Report,\u2063 Sabato\u2019s Crystal Ball, and Inside Elections with Nathan \u2063L.\u2062 Gonzales\u2064 all rate CD 4 as a \u201ctoss-up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As of Nov.\u200c 3, Mr. Esposito\u2062 does not have a primary challenger, and his \u2063campaign had \u200c$1.113 million in the bank. Ms. Gillen\u2019s campaign reported to the Federal\u2064 Elections Commission (FEC) nearly $400,000 in cash \u200con hand as \u2062of \u200dSept. \u206230.<\/p>\n<p>In\u2063 addition to Ms. Gillen, at least four other Democrats are seeking \u2063the CD 4 seat.\u2064 Among them is investment company owner Gian Jones and former Nassau\/Suffolk counties \u2063development and\u200d community \u200ceducation director Patricia \u200dMaher, a Nassau County Democratic Committee mainstay and perennial \u200ccandidate.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-figure\" style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>  Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY)<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Lawler, a former advisor to Westchester County \u2062Executive Rob \u2064Astorino, \u2063pulled off a major upset in 2022 by defeating House DCCC chair Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney \u2064(D-N.Y.) by \u2064less than 1 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Defeating the first-term Republican\u2062 in 2024 is a top\u2063 priority for the DCCC, Democrats\u2019 House \u2064Majority \u2062PAC, and New York\u2019s \u2063state Democratic committee.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Lawler does not have a primary challenger as\u200b yet, and his campaign reported \u200cmore than\u200c $2 million \u2062in\u200c cash on hand to\u200d the FEC on Sept. 30.<\/p>\n<p>Two prominent Democrats are running for his CD 17 seat: \u2064former U.S. Rep. Mondaire \u2062Jones (D-N.Y.) and Katonah-Lewisboro \u200cSchool Board member Liz Gereghty, who \u200cis Michigan Gov. \u200bGretchen Whitmer\u2019s\u200c sister, will vie in the primary to take on the\u2064 GOP incumbent in November.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. \u2062Biden won CD 17 by 10 percent in 2020. Despite the Cook Partisan Voter Index documenting that\u200c Democrats have a D+2 edge in CD 17 voter \u2064registration, Cook, Inside Elections with Nathan L. Gonzales, and Sabato\u2019s Crystal Ball\u2062 rate the 2024 race\u200c as a \u201ctoss-up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The only publicly\u2062 posted polling thus \u200dfar was \u200ca May 4-7 survey of 300\u2063 likely\u200d voters \u200cby EMC\u2064 Research and\u200c End \u2064Citizens United\/Let America Vote Action \u200cFund in which Mr. \u200bLawler edged Mr. Jones 50 to 48 percent.<\/p>\n<p>CD 17 spans\u200c both sides of the river in the Lower Hudson Valley. It includes all\u2064 of Rockland and Putnam counties, northern Westchester County, and parts of southern Dutchess County. Pat\u2062 Ryan (D-NY)<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Ryan, a West Point \u200dgraduate\u2062 and Iraq war combat veteran, served as \u200cUlster County Executive \u2064before winning a special election \u2064in \u2064August 2022 for CD 18.\u200d He defeated Republican Colin Schmitt\u200d by 1.3 percent in a purple district that leans Democrat \u200bbut \u2063has a\u200d history \u200cof electing\u2064 Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>As of Nov. 3,\u2064 Mr. Ryan had at\u2063 least\u2063 one \u200bchallenger in the\u2063 CD 18 Democratic primary\u2014Alexander \u200bSaulino, a camera operator from Poughkeepsie. His campaign\u2019s Sept. 30 FEC \u200dfiling showed $1.678 million \u200cin \u200bits kitty while \u2064no FEC\u2063 data was available\u2063 for Mr. Saulino\u2019s campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Two Republicans have filed to run \u2063for CD 18: Realtor Lovelynn Gwinn and retired New\u200b York City Police\u200b deputy inspector and Brooklyn precinct commander Alison Esposito, an \u2062Orange County native who ran in 2022 as Mr. Zeldin\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pennsylvania-lieutenant-governor-to-run-for-senate-seat-being-vacated-by-gops-toomey\/\" title=\"Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor to Run for Senate Seat Being Vacated by GOP\u2019s Toomey\">lieutenant governor candidate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-figure\" style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>  Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-NY)<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Molinaro, a former \u200bDutchess County executive \u2063and the Republican \u2062Party\u2019s 2018 \u2063gubernatorial \u200dcandidate, won the GOP nomination \u2063for CD 19 in 2022.\u200b He defeated Democrat John Riley by less than\u200b 1.6 percent \u2062in November 2022.<\/p>\n<p>As of Nov. 3, Mr. Molinaro \u200bhas $1.35 million in\u2064 his campaign coffers and no primary \u2063challenger. Three Democrats are running for the seat, including 2022 opponent \u200cMr. Riley.<\/p>\n<p>CD 19 \u2063stretches across the Hudson Valley\u2063 from the Connecticut state line\u200d to \u200cthe Catskills\u200c and Cayuga Lake. It has a history of being \u200ca\u2062 competitive district, and\u200d the outcome\u2063 of the 2024 \u2064race is rated as a \u200d\u201ctoss-up\u201d by the Cook\u2063 Political\u200c Report, Sabato\u2019s Crystal Ball, and Inside Elections with \u200dNathan L. Brandon Williams (R-NY)<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Williams, a business owner and former Navy submarine officer, \u2064won his 2022 race against\u200d Democrat Francis Conroe \u200bby just 1 percent.<\/p>\n<p>CD 22 is centered\u200b around Syracuse and covers Onondaga, Madison, and \u2063Oneida counties, as well as a small part of Oswego County. Mr. Biden won the district by 7.4\u200b percent in 2020, but Mr. Williams outperformed those results by\u2063 8.5 percent \u2063in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The Cook Political Report, Sabato\u2019s \u2064Crystal Ball, \u200band Inside Elections\u200b with Nathan L. Gonzales\u2064 all rate CD 22\u200c as a \u201ctoss-up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As of Nov. 3,\u2063 Mr. Williams faces no primary challenger, and his \u200dcampaign\u2019s Sept. 30 FEC\u2062 filing reported $861,000 in the bank. At \u200bleast five Democrats are running \u200dfor the\u200b seat, including DeWitt Town Councilor and Air Force veteran \u2062Sarah Klee Hood and state Sen.
