Wallace had made a donation to a group called the Colorado Turnout \u2064Project,\u200d which was formed \u2062in response to the events of January 6, 2021, when political\u2064 extremists stormed the United States \u200bCapitol.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Its website proudly proclaims that the group was formed &#8216;shortly after Colorado Republicans refused to condemn the political extremists who stormed the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021,'&#8221; attorney Scott Gessler wrote in \u200bthe motion seeking Wallace&#8217;s recusal.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Gessler argued that Wallace&#8217;s donation to\u200b the Colorado Turnout Project indicated support for the view that the events of January \u20646 constituted an &#8220;insurrection.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However,\u2063 Wallace, who had\u200d donated $100 to the \u2063group before becoming a judge, disagreed with Gessler&#8217;s interpretation.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;I can assure all of \u2064the litigants \u2062that prior to the start of this litigation and to \u200cthis day, I have formed no opinion whether the events of Jan. 6 constituted an\u2062 insurrection,&#8221; \u2062Wallace stated in response to the motion.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>She also clarified that she had no opinion on whether Trump had engaged \u200din an insurrection or any other issues relevant to the case.<\/p>\n<p>While Wallace acknowledged making the donation, she emphasized that it was not \u200ca common practice for \u2062her to\u2063 contribute to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/analysis-dc-judge-rushes-gargantuan-trump-case-to-trial\/\" title=\"DC Judge Fast-Tracks 'Huge' Trump Case to Trial\">political \u200baction committees<\/a> (PACs).<\/p>\n<p>The \u200dcentral question in the case before Wallace is whether \u200cTrump&#8217;s actions on January 6, 2021,\u200c can \u200dbe considered \u2063an &#8220;insurrection.&#8221; The outcome of the case will determine whether Trump \u200cshould be barred from the Colorado Republican primary\u200c ballot under the 14th\u2063 Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado Politics reported that judges are prohibited from making political contributions, but this rule only applies \u200bto judges and judicial candidates.
