The shameless celebrations on the\u200c backs of terrorism quickly pivoted to an explosion of \u2063blatant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/jewish-students-lawsuit-cornell-harvard-campus-antisemitism-lawyer-2023-10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">harassment<\/a> of Jewish people on campuses and beyond,\u200b leaving those still living\u2064 in the realm of sanity to question what\u200c this movement actually stood for all along.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>For those looking to \u201cdetransition\u201d out\u2063 from woke possession, and those seeking\u200d to facilitate \u2062their escape, \u200dit is\u200b essential to understand how exactly so\u200c many \u200cwere captured by\u200b it. The process of leaving the woke movement is similar\u200c to that of disentangling oneself from a cult or an abusive narcissist. You must begin to spot \u2063the lies and identify the various forms of manipulation. Once seen, such tactics are hard to unsee, and the spell breaks abruptly.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Stages\u2062 of \u2064woke\u200b manipulation generally move\u2064 from pity to fear to force. It starts with appeals to compassion, then preys upon fear \u2062of social or civic\u200b retribution, and finally moves to force through coercive laws,\u200d encroachments on \u2062freedom, corruption of agencies and institutions, and finally violence.<\/p>\n<h2>Stage\u200c One: <strong>Pity<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The first stage is the most subtle. Perhaps it is not actually compassionate or\u200c empowering to persuade \u2062people that they are in a permanent victim class. But\u2063 in\u200d 2020, it became not only insufficient but demonstrably\u200c evil, as colorblindness was rebranded as a sign of white\u2063 supremacy.<\/p>\n<h2>Stage Three:\u200c <strong>Force<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The fear stage blends easily into force. What was normalized through \u200dweaponized compassion, fear, and silence becomes codified \u2064in law \u200dand policy.<\/p>\n<p>The force stage is both alarming and hopeful. Before this stage,\u2064 the movement still\u2064 seems benevolent to many. It was easy enough to overlook the more militant \u200bparts of wokeism or translate them into something reasonable. Even \u200bif flaccid apologies roll in as\u2063 institutional donors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/elite-universities-feel-heat-from-donors-over-left-wing-students-twisted-anti-israel-statements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">roll out<\/a>, the logic of revolution is finally laid bare, and \u2064the exposure is too much to walk back.<\/p>\n<p>Though this stage feels not a \u200dlittle terrifying, it \u2064presents \u200ban opportunity for a burgeoning political realignment. Like the feminists who felt betrayed when the revolution <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefp.com\/witchtrials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sacrificed<\/a> them for the transgender movement, many leftists are seeing with clarity\u200c the bankruptcy of a cause that can discard allies so easily\u200d and \u2062abandon moral axioms so callously.<\/p>\n<p>To welcome them and buttress a return to sanity, we need to\u200b alleviate the\u2064 two greatest \u200bbarriers to taking the off-ramp \u2064from wokeism: power \u2062and complicity.<\/p>\n<h2>Intoxicating Virtue and \u200c <strong>Power<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The greatest intoxication of getting woke is that it imbues a person with a sense of great virtue and power. The movement gives\u2064 perverse incentive to find one\u2019s moral stature in \u200dclaiming a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-untold-truth-of-the-matthew-shepard-story\/\" title=\"The Hidden Truth Behind Matthew Shepard's Story\">victim identity<\/a>. Every perpetual victim needs a perpetual culprit. This leads to a society of\u200d accusers in constant roiling conflict, unable to self-examine \u2014 incentivized to\u2063 find evil everywhere around him\u200d but never within.<\/p>\n<p>All are tempted to deflect responsibility, but healthy communities \u2014 from a well-ordered family to Christianity \u2014\u200b seek to counter it through things like examinations of \u2062conscience, confession, or\u2064 the natural way that the \u2063intimacy of family life can hold a mirror to our conscience.\u200d The woke movement in contrast seeks to exploit \u200c\u2014 not counter \u2014 this\u200c human tendency to deflect and accuse.<\/p>\n<p>Because this habit of victim\/accuser identity is hard to break, we ought to fight the woke revolution \u200cwithout devolving into angry belligerent blowhards who \u200bwould never welcome a\u2063 woke refugee into our realm. Which way we perceive it can determine if we course-correct. Wokeism colonizes the soul by requiring \u2064people to lie inwardly so they can accept the\u2064 lies they must promote outwardly.
