However, it&#8217;s no surprise\u200b that many of the winners lean towards a liberal perspective.\u2063 From HBO Max&#8217;s The Janes, which explores \u2062a Chicago\u2062 group that performed thousands \u200bof abortions before Roe v. Wade, to \u2064a Netflix winner produced by Hillary Clinton herself, the dominance\u200d of liberal viewpoints is evident. Notably, there isn&#8217;t a single\u2064 film with\u2064 a conservative point of view.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past\u200c few decades, documentaries have experienced\u2064 a renaissance, with a surge in production value,\u2063 artistic skill, and audience approval. Nonfiction content \u2062now dominates streaming services and TV, ranging\u200b from true\u2064 crime to reality shows to \u2063documentaries that are &#8220;ripped from the\u2064 headlines.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>The Liberal Influence\u200c on Documentaries<\/h3>\n<p>Recognizing the power and \u2063ubiquity of \u200bdocumentaries, \u200dliberals have effectively utilized this medium to promote their \u2064ideas\u2062 and gain public acceptance. For instance, the \u200cNew\u200c York Times&#8217;s Pulitzer Prize-winning 1619\u200c Project, which claims that American history is rooted in racism, \u200bhas\u200c now been transformed into an Emmy-nominated series for Hulu. \u200dEven former President Barack Obama and \u200bMichelle Obama have\u2063 secured a multipicture deal with\u200b Netflix.\u2062 Ava DuVernay&#8217;s Oscar-nominated documentary 13th has successfully popularized the \u200cnotion that mass incarceration is\u2062 deeply embedded in America&#8217;s \u200cracist \u200dhistory. \u2064Celebrities have also rallied \u200dbehind\u200b films addressing global warming, with\u2063 Al Gore&#8217;s An \u200bInconvenient Truth winning an Oscar in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>What may\u200c come\u2063 as a surprise \u200cis the lack of conservative \u200bpresence \u2064in this powerful medium. \u2062While conservatives often lament about \u2062the cultural landscape, they\u200d have failed to \u2064produce substantial content, particularly \u2063in storytelling media like documentaries.<\/p>\n<p>On the other \u200chand, the left has actively \u200cinvested in documentaries for decades. Their \u2062vast fundraising machine, supported by big foundations such as \u200cFord and McArthur, as well as for-profit\u200b companies like \u200bParticipant and Magnolia, has poured \u2064billions of \u2062dollars into &#8220;woke&#8221; content and social \u2063justice initiatives.\u200d In contrast, the right has only \u200dmustered tens of millions at best, leaving a significant\u200d void \u200din the \u2062conservative\u200d documentary ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>This disparity has \u200bresulted in \u200ca\u2063 thriving environment for young liberal filmmakers. Film schools, often promoting themselves as training grounds for activists, \u200dprovide the \u2063initial stepping stone. Liberal funders, film festivals, distributors, and awards further support these\u200c budding\u2062 filmmakers. \u2064While aspiring \u200cfilmmakers may dream of becoming \u2063the\u2063 next Steven \u2062Spielberg,\u200c the reality is \u2062that\u2063 nonfiction documentaries are more accessible \u2063and\u200b cost-effective, making them a popular choice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A \u200bCall\u200d for Conservative Engagement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The left&#8217;s commitment to\u2062 utilizing \u2064every \u200cmedia platform to make their \u200dcase is\u200d commendable. However, the right&#8217;s absence from this arena\u200c is detrimental to \u2064all Americans. Unlike government or \u200cacademia, the cultural landscape operates within a relatively free market. If conservatives were to emulate the left&#8217;s approach and invest similar \u200bamounts of energy, money, and talent into movies and TV, the culture \u200dwould\u2064 undoubtedly shift.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I have dedicated \u2063my \u2064career to producing fair \u2064and balanced \u200dfilms that shed light on stories ignored by\u2062 the left. Fifteen\u2062 of \u200cmy \u200bdocumentaries have \u2063been nationally \u200bbroadcasted on PBS, including my\u200c most recent work, Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words. While the \u200cleft has extensively\u2063 covered the story of\u200d Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Clarence Thomas&#8217;s remarkable journey from \u2062poverty in \u2062the segregated South\u200c to the Supreme \u2064Court had been overlooked. Our goal has always been to reach beyond the political divide and captivate\u200d the vast center with compelling\u2062 and unbiased storytelling.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, \u200cAmerica&#8217;s cultural imbalance has left many untold or misrepresented stories. The &#8220;woke&#8221; bias against American traditions and the\u200b obsession with race,\u200b class, and gender have resulted\u2064 in misleading documentaries \u2062and feature films. Where are the movies \u200dcelebrating the West&#8217;s triumph in \u2064the Cold War\u2063 or critically examining the economic consequences\u200d of pursuing\u200d net-zero emissions?<\/p>\n<p>As the\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fighting-the-culture-war-one-documentary-at-a-time\/\" title=\"Battling the culture war through documentaries.\">left recognized long ago<\/a>, producing a few good films is not enough.\u200c It requires \u2064the development and nurturing of new talent within a parallel ecosystem. That&#8217;s why\u2062 my new company, Palladium Pictures,\u200d has launched an incubator program to\u200c train young right-of-center filmmakers. Each \u2063year, we will select talented individuals, fully fund \u200ctheir short documentaries, and ensure widespread distribution. With numerous platforms available for video content, especially shorts, there\u2064 are\u200c ample opportunities to make an impact.\u2064 However,\u200c creating a true ecosystem will require \u2063substantial funding and larger distribution platforms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The\u2063 Power of Storytelling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Those who control the \u200dnarrative shape the\u2062 terms of the debate. The \u200bpublic deserves a comprehensive and accurate understanding \u200bof\u200c their\u200c history, recent past,\u2064 and current controversies. Encouraging\u200d young conservative\u2063 filmmakers and giving them access to resources, mentorship, and\u2064 opportunities will foster a\u200b new\u200b generation \u200cof \u2062conservative voices in the documentary industry.<\/p>\n<p>Conservatives must also actively \u2063engage with film festivals, distributors, and awards ceremonies\u200b to ensure their films are given a\u2062 fair chance at reaching a \u2063broader audience.
