Steve Womack (R-AR) voted to expel indicted Rep. \u200cGeorge Santos (R-NY) from Congress, the embattled New York Republican took\u200c to social \u200cmedia to attack his fellow Republican\u2019s son and his battle with drugs.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Following the vote, Womack posted a joke on \u200bX,\u2062 the social media\u2064 site formerly known as Twitter, writing, \u201cLast night, the House saw its shadow. Unfortunately, this means there will be two more \u200cweeks of Santos.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Biden Menthol Cigarette Ban Receives Backlash<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Santos\u2064 responded to Womack\u200c in a now-deleted post\u200c on X, saying, \u201cYour son is a felon. He has been in \u2064and\u200d out of \u2063the\u2063 prison system for years. He is a drug dealer, poisoning people on the streets with meth and unlawful possession of a gun. \u2063Instead of being home, taking care \u2063of your son, you&#8217;re sitting pretty in the swamp.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Womack&#8217;s 37-year-old son, James,\u200c pleaded guilty this year to\u200d charges\u2063 that included distributing more than five grams of methamphetamine. He faces up\u2064 to 40\u2062 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur family has been through\u200d a lot with an adult son, and those subjects \u200care \u200balways off limits in terms of the political discourse. And for somebody to raise it for some kind of political gain,\u2064 is regretful,&#8221; Womack told the Washington Examiner. &#8220;There&#8217;s enough\u200c up\u200c here to get crossways about, but let&#8217;s leave families out of it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Womack said \u2062that while Santos did apologize to him for the post, he crossed a line, and\u200c the damage had already been \u2062done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my case, it&#8217;s a son with a \u2062drug problem; for someone \u2062else, it&#8217;s an illness. \u2064For others, it&#8217;s money; for others, it&#8217;s\u2062 domestic,\u201d Womack said. \u201cI \u200cmean, there&#8217;s not a family up here that doesn&#8217;t \u2063have some challenge going on in their life. And\u200d life and politics is\u2064 complicated enough; \u200bwe\u200c don&#8217;t need to resort to that kind of\u200b stuff. \u200bAnd well, he did what he did; he apologized for it. Santos chose to attack Jacob Womack&#8217;s past struggles with addiction and his efforts to rehabilitate himself. Substance abuse is a\u200d widespread problem\u2062 in our\u2064 society,\u2064 affecting individuals\u2064 from all walks of life. It is a disease that requires compassion, understanding, and support to overcome. Instead of casting judgment, it \u200dis\u200b important for public\u200c figures like \u200bSantos to\u2064 promote empathy and seek solutions to address the underlying issues contributing to the drug epidemic.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore,\u2062 it is disheartening to witness the division within the Republican Party.
