They always have. And as long as power tempts them, they always will.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2063Heritage Foundation, for instance, has compiled \u200dan extensive list of voter-fraud cases across the country. That list includes 127 cases since 2021. Nearly all resulted in criminal convictions.<\/p>\n<p>In the months leading up to the 2022 midterm elections, the \u200destablishment media dutifully downplayed such evidence. NPR, for instance, made sure to\u2062 smear 159 Trump-endorsed \u200ccandidates as \u201celection \u2064deniers.\u201d \u2063Of course, it made no mention of Democrats\u2019 repeated efforts to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the 2016 election.<\/p>\n<p>NPR did\u2062 offer a lame acknowledgment of questions surrounding the integrity of the 1960 presidential election. In that year, \u2064Democrat John F. Kennedy\u200c narrowly defeated Republican Richard Nixon in a contest plagued by credible accusations of cheating, particularly in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>Even 1960, however, does not constitute a \u201clong\u201d history. For that, we must\u200b venture much further into the American \u200bpast.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, not many people know the\u2064 story of the 1890 U.S. Census.<\/p>\n<p>In a 1996 article published in the National Archives and Records \u200bAdministration\u2019s \u201cPrologue\u201d magazine,\u200d archivist Kellee Blake explained what happened to the records from that census and why they proved so controversial.<\/p>\n<p>Blake called \u200cit a \u201ccomplex tale\u201d filled with \u200d\u201cdemands for recounts\u201d and a process \u201cmired in fraud and political\u200d intrigue.\u201d Tammany Hall, New York City\u2019s notorious Democratic political machine, reportedly paid well\u2063 for inflated \u2063counts in certain districts. After all, more people meant more political\u200c power relative to \u2064others.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, \u201cNew York State officials were accused of bolstering census numbers,\u201d Blake wrote, \u201cand the intense business competition between Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, resulted in no fewer than nineteen indictments against Minneapolis businessmen for allegedly adding more than 1,100 phony names\u200d to the census.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As fate would have it,\u2064 a 1921 fire destroyed many of those 1890 census records.<\/p>\n<p>Still, memories of rampant fraud lingered, and that negative perception found its way into popular culture. In Caleb Carr\u2019s 1994 novel, \u201cThe Alienist,\u201d set in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/richmond-art-museums-whistler-to-cassatt-show-is-another-triumph\/\" title=\"Richmond Art Museum\u2019s \u2018Whistler To Cassatt\u2019 Show Is Another Triumph\">late 19th-century<\/a> New York City, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-long-history-of-american-voter-fraud\/\" title=\"American voter fraud has a lengthy history.\">serial child killer gained access<\/a> to victims by working as \u200ca census-taker in immigrant neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<p>Decades earlier, the federal government created a recipe for fraud when it left the question of slavery open to the people\u200d of the western\u200b territories. Emigrants\u200c to\u200c Kansas Territory tried to settle that question first, in some cases by whatever means necessary.<\/p>\n<p>The Missouri Compromise of 1820 banned slavery in nearly all territories acquired from France in the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. In 1854, however, Congress repealed that Compromise by passing the Kansas-Nebraska Act. Under the guise of promoting \u201cdemocracy,\u201d Democrats demanded that the people of those territories should vote on slavery.<\/p>\n<p>At Lecompton, Kansas, in 1857, pro-slavery settlers used\u2062 every manner of fraud to secure a pro-slavery state constitution. John Calhoun \u2014 not\u2062 to be confused \u200dwith the \u2063famous Senator John C. Calhoun of South Carolina \u2014 played\u200b a leading role.<\/p>\n<p>The Kansas Historical Society described John Calhoun \u2063as a \u201cnotorious figure involved with election fraud related to the Lecompton Constitution.\u201d Calhoun, in fact, \u201cdirected his clerk to bury fake ballots in a wooden box, thereby hiding them from \u2063free-state investigators.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democratic President James Buchanan of Pennsylvania,\u200c however, proceeded as if nothing fraudulent had occurred.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have received from J. Calhoun, esq., president of \u2062the late constitutional convention of Kansas, a copy, duly certified by himself, of\u2062 the\u200b constitution\u200d framed by that body,\u2062 with the expression of\u2063 a hope that I would \u200dsubmit the same to the consideration of Congress \u2018with the view of the admission\u2062 of Kansas into the Union as an independent State,&#8217;\u201d Buchanan wrote in an 1858 message to Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Buchanan \u2014 a\u200b spineless nincompoop \u2014 wanted the Kansas question settled as quickly as possible. So he accepted Calhoun\u2019s \u201ccertification.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Congress then deliberated and rejected the Lecompton Constitution. Evidence of fraud\u200c proved too overwhelming. More than 1,600 Kansas ballots, for instance, featured \u201cvoter\u201d names\u200c copied \u200bfrom the city directory of Cincinnati, \u2063Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, had Buchanan prevailed, voter fraud would have made Kansas a slave state.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, one of the\u200d most \u2062brazen and surprising examples of attempted \u201celection interference\u201d dates to the \u2062early republic. In fact, it involved several Founding Fathers.<\/p>\n<p>A spring 1800 election in New York City cost the Federalist Party dearly. This meant\u2062 that a legislature favorable to\u200d Thomas Jefferson\u2019s Republican Party likely would choose New York\u2019s slate \u200dof presidential electors.<\/p>\n<p>To forestall this catastrophe, Alexander\u200c Hamilton wrote to New York Governor and fellow Federalist John Jay with an idea, \u201cnamely the immediate calling \u200btogether of \u2063the existing Legislature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am aware that there are weighty objections to the measure; but the reasons \u200bfor it appear to me to outweigh the objections. And \u2064in times like these in which we live, it will not do to\u200b be overscrupulous,\u201d Hamilton \u200dadded.<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton\u2063 believed that Jefferson\u2019s Republicans would undermine the Union and far worse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTis a composition indeed of very \u200dincongruous materials but all tending to mischief \u2014 some of \u2064them \u2064to the overthrow of the Government by stripping it of its due energies others of them to a Revolution after the manner of Buonaparte,\u201d Hamilton \u200dwrote \u2062of \u2062the Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton, of course, thought he had good\u200c reason to suggest interference in New York\u2019s election. After \u2063all, he regarded his political opponents as\u2064 potential insurrectionists.<\/p>\n<p>Upon receiving Hamilton\u2019s extraordinary letter, Jay made a note at the bottom of the page.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProposing a measure for party purposes wh. The race between Republican Rutherford B. Hayes and Democrat Samuel J. Tilden was incredibly close, with both candidates claiming victory. As a result, several states sent competing slates of electors to Congress, and\u200b the country\u2064 was on the brink of\u2062 a constitutional crisis.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, a \u2062compromise was reached that gave Hayes the presidency in \u200bexchange for the end of Reconstruction and the withdrawal of federal troops from the South. \u2064While the\u2062 details\u200c of the \u200bcompromise\u200c are \u200dcomplex \u200cand controversial, it is clear that voter fraud \u2062played a significant role in the \u200ddisputed election. <\/p>\n<p>In Florida, for example, it was widely reported\u200c that armed bands of Democrats patrolled the streets to intimidate Republican voters and prevent them \u200bfrom casting their \u200dballots. \u2064In Louisiana, African American voters were systematically disenfranchised through a combination of violence and fraud. And in \u200bSouth Carolina, there were\u200c reports of widespread\u200d vote tampering and ballot stuffing.<\/p>\n<p>These are just a few examples from\u200d a long history\u2064 of American voter fraud. Throughout the years, politicians\u200b and their supporters have found ways to manipulate\u200c the democratic process\u2063 in order to gain an advantage. From the 19th-century Tammany Hall \u2064machine\u2064 in New York\u200b City to the modern-day scandals \u200cin places like Chicago and Philadelphia, voter fraud \u200chas \u2064been a recurring\u2062 problem in American elections.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the evidence, there are\u200d those who claim that voter fraud is a myth or\u2062 that it is\u200d not a \u200csignificant problem in our elections. These individuals \u200coften\u200c point to studies or investigations \u200dthat have\u200d found relatively low numbers of prosecuted\u2063 cases of voter fraud. However, this argument misses the point.<\/p>\n<p>The reality is that voter fraud is difficult to detect and prosecute. It\u200d often goes unreported or\u2063 unnoticed, and when it is discovered, it can be challenging to\u2063 gather the evidence needed for a conviction. Furthermore, the\u2064 fear of being labeled a conspiracy theorist\u200c or racist has silenced many individuals who have witnessed voter \u2063fraud\u200c firsthand.<\/p>\n<p>In order to protect the integrity of our elections, we must take\u200b voter \u200dfraud seriously. This\u200d means implementing measures such as\u200d voter ID \u200blaws, ensuring that voter rolls are accurate\u200d and up to date, \u200dand increasing penalties\u200b for those who engage in fraudulent activity. It also means holding our politicians accountable and\u2063 demanding transparency and fairness in our electoral processes.<\/p>\n<p>As Americans, we have a responsibility to uphold the principles of \u200bdemocracy and ensure that every vote counts. By acknowledging and addressing the\u200c long history of\u200d voter fraud in our\u200b country, we can work towards a future where our elections are truly\u200b free and\u2064 fair.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democracies, like any government, comprise flawed individuals.
