Scott’s endorsement comes at a time when⁤ presidential candidate ⁤Ron DeSantis, who is also from Florida,⁢ is vying for the Republican nomination.

Scott ⁤made the ‌announcement ⁤in ⁣an op-ed published in Newsweek on ‍Thursday. In the op-ed, Scott⁢ expressed his support for his friend, Donald J. Trump, to be the 47th president of the United States.⁤ He encouraged every Republican to ⁤unite behind Trump’s efforts to win⁤ back the White House. Scott emphasized the need for the Republican Party to come together and declare with one voice ⁤their united efforts to defeat Joe Biden and rescue America.

This endorsement marks a shift in Scott’s previous stance. In April,⁣ Scott stated that he had no plans to endorse a candidate during the primaries. However, during the Republican Jewish Coalition summit in ⁤Las Vegas‍ over the weekend, Scott hinted that he ⁢had changed his mind. He praised ⁣Trump’s pro-Israel policies and highlighted the impact he had on the country.

It is ⁢worth noting that ‍this is not the first instance where Scott and DeSantis have not seen eye-to-eye. Their friction started soon after they were elected to their ⁢respective positions. Before becoming a senator, Scott served as ‍the⁣ governor of Florida for ⁤two terms. There were ⁢clashes between DeSantis’s transition team and Scott’s outgoing administration, ⁣and‍ Scott even refused to attend his swearing-in as senator so ⁢he could remain governor until DeSantis’s inauguration.

Furthermore, there is a history ⁣of tension‌ between Scott and DeSantis. During the early ‌weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic, when⁤ unemployment numbers were rising, DeSantis blamed the prior administration, claiming that Scott had intentionally designed a system ⁢that discouraged residents from applying ⁢for aid. Scott, on the other hand, has always ⁣maintained a positive relationship with Trump. In 2020, Scott was one of the senators who refused ‌to certify⁣ Joe Biden’s election ⁢win as ‌legitimate.

Trump has consistently maintained a ⁣lead over his‌ competitors since the beginning of his campaign. According to RealClearPolitics national polling, Trump currently has 59.3% support, placing ⁤him in the lead. DeSantis is in second place with 13.4% support.

Senator Tim Scott’s endorsement of Donald Trump for president has generated significant attention. It ⁣highlights‌ the complexities within the Republican Party⁢ and the varied opinions among its members. As the 2024 presidential race continues to⁣ unfold, ⁣it remains to be seen how Scott’s endorsement will impact the overall dynamics of the⁢ campaign.

announced his candidacy for the US presidency, joining the race alongside former President Donald Trump.
