(San Francisco \u200bPolice \u2064Department)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Paul \u200bPelosi Attacker to Face Trial<\/h2>\n<p>The\u200b former House speaker&#8217;s \u2062subpoena comes as the trial \u200dis set to begin \u2062for David DePape, the Canadian citizen who allegedly attacked Ms. Pelosi&#8217;s husband \u2063Paul inside their San Francisco home last year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to prosecutors, the suspect broke into the residence in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-cori-bush-rushes-to-defense-of-very-violent-criminals-rioting-attacking-guard-in-jail\/\" title=\"Democrat Cori Bush Rushes To Defense Of \u2018Very Violent\u2019 Criminals Rioting, Attacking Guard In Jail\">early morning hours<\/a> of Oct. 28 and attacked Mr. Pelosi,\u2062 82, by striking him in the head with a hammer.<\/p>\n<p>Police said they later found a roll of tape, white rope, a second hammer, a \u200dpair of \u2062rubber and cloth gloves, and zip ties inside Mr. DePape&#8217;s backpack \u2062during a search.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors say the\u200d attack was politically motivated\u2063 and that Mr. DePape sought to &#8220;detain and injure&#8221; the former House speaker during the incident and smash her kneecaps so that she would be left using\u2063 a wheelchair.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>She would then need\u200b to be &#8220;wheeled into Congress,\u2062 which would show \u200dother members of Congress there were consequences \u200bto actions,&#8221;\u2064 Mr. DePape\u2063 allegedly told FBI agents, \u200daccording to court documents.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Mr. DePape has since apologized for &#8220;messing up&#8221; during the incident \u200dand claimed \u200cthat he carried out the attack because people&#8217;s individual\u200d liberties were being threatened.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Concerns Over Biased Trial Jury<\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;I want to \u2064apologize\u200b to\u2064 everyone. I messed up. What I did \u200cwas \u2064really bad. I&#8217;m so sorry I didn&#8217;t \u200cget more \u2064of them. It&#8217;s my \u2062own fault.\u200b No one\u200c else is to blame. I should have come better prepared,&#8221; \u200che reportedly told \u200clocal news outlet KATU-TV in January.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Family\u2064 members and friends of Mr. DePape have suggested\u2062 he may have been struggling with mental issues ahead of the\u2062 alleged attack.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Mr. DePape is facing both \u200bstate and federal charges stemming from the October \u200c2022 incident. He \u2063is also accused of making threats\u200d to kidnap Ms. Pelosi and other officials.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>In\u200d August, lawyers for\u2064 Mr. DePape raised\u200b concerns that the San Francisco\u2064 jury pool in the trial would be biased, resulting in an unfair trial, and sought to move the trial to \u200bEureka, California, via a \u2062motion submitted to the court.
