Talk about bad timing. On Wednesday, the White House\u2063 announced<\/a> a \u201cNational Strategy to Counter\u200c Islamophobia,\u201d\u2062 the necessity of which, according to awkwardly scripted remarks by Vice President Kamala Harris,\u2063 is that Muslims endure a disproportionate number of \u201chate-fueled attacks and other discriminatory incidents.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leave\u2064 it to the Biden White House to pick a moment when a \u200bwave of antisemitism is surging across America to announce this. Set aside the dearth of evidence that Muslims\u200c face persecution or discrimination in mainstream American \u200dsociety. Last\u2064 year\u2063 set a record<\/a> for anti-Jewish hate crimes, breaking the previous record that was set the\u2064 year before. Since the Oct. \u20627 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, antisemitism has erupted\u200d in our cities\u2064 and on campuses, this time with the imprimatur \u2062and cooperation of the identitarian \u200dleft. \u200bThe idea that now is the time \u2062to address Islamophobia is so out of touch with the reality of the moment, only\u200d the \u200dBiden-Harris administration\u200c could possibly have come up with it.<\/p>\n

But the announcement \u2062inadvertently serves to highlight a rather disturbing development in our \u200ccivic life. At this point, \u200dsome three weeks removed from the Hamas slaughter \u2062of 1,400 Israelis,\u200c it\u2019s hard to deny that we have a\u2064 domestic constituency for Hamas in this country. Generally speaking, it\u2019s comprised of \u200ca broad swath of the woke left\u2064 together with a broad swath of Muslim-Americans, united in what amounts \u2063to an\u200b unstable Red-Green alliance.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s\u2064 also easy to see \u200dthat this Hamas constituency is warming \u200cup for a\u2064 season of real violence.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve all seen the recent videos of self-righteous Hamas sympathizers tearing down posters of missing \u2062or kidnapped Israeli children. In \u200dalmost every \u200dcase, their actions are accompanied by either a\u2062 defiant callousness or a dead-eyed nonchalance. Pleading with them or interrogating them is pointless, as every person who has tried to do so on camera \u2063has quickly discovered. These \u2062people are antisemites, and it\u2019s not possible to shame them out of their antisemitism. They own it gladly. <\/p>\n

But\u2063 this week, a different sort of video appeared on social\u2063 media. A group of Jews in Manhattan\u2019s Upper East Side physically protected a bunch of posters<\/a> of Israeli child hostages from an antisemite who was trying to tear them down. The man, who of\u2064 course covered his face with a keffiyeh, tried to force his way through \u200band a\u200b scuffle ensued. Eventually, a cop pulled up and appeared to arrest the man \u2063as a crowd gathered.<\/p>\n
