It was unclear \u2064if more Americans would\u2064 be allowed to leave.<\/p>\n<p>However, according to testimony Tuesday from Secretary of State <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/antony-blinkens-senate-testimony-completely-derailed-protesters-repeatedly-interrupt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Antony Blinken<\/a>, hundreds and hundreds more Americans \u200bremain trapped, according to the \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/10\/31\/news\/hamas-traps-1000-americans-in-gaza-as-last-us-charter-plane-leaves-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. has been getting Americans out\u2062 of\u200b the region. On Tuesday, the final U.S. \u200dcharter flight from Israel brought out five Americans, Miller said. Airlines canceled flights after the Oct. 7\u2064 massacre of 1,400 Israelis\u200c by Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>Blinken said Hamas has \u2063been the main obstacle to evacuating U.S. citizens and their families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re working\u200d with various parties to try \u2062to facilitate their departure from Gaza,\u201d\u200d he said. \u201cThe impediment\u2062 is \u200csimple: It\u2019s Hamas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve not yet found a way to get them out through\u200c whatever place and by whatever means that Hamas is not blocking,\u200b but we\u2019re working \u200bthat with intermediaries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added\u200b the State Department is \u201cin close communication as best we can with Americans who are stuck in \u2062Gaza,\u201d but without \u2063much that it can tell them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had about 5,500 communications that we<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/1000-americans-left-behind-as-last-us-charter-plane-leaves-israel\/\" title=\"1,000 Americans stranded as final US charter plane departs Israel.\">\u2019ve initiated \u2014 phone calls<\/a>, emails, WhatsApp \u2014 to be\u2062 in touch with them to try \u200dto guide \u200bthem \u2064as best we \u2062can, and to \u2063work for\u2062 their ability \u200bto leave,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley of Oregon \u2062said \u2063a family that has been in touch with his office said the communication \u200dhas been of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-israeli-troops-tanks-enter-gaza-prepare-battlefield\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">little help<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He said to\u2063 Blinken during a Senate\u2063 Appropriations Committee meeting that the family \u201crelayed to me how\u2063 they three times have gotten \u200ba text \u200bmessage [or] email saying, \u2018Drop everything [and] go to the Rafah crossing,\u2019 \u2063and they waited until dark. But each time, nothing happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey weren\u2019t interfered with by Hamas,\u200c just the \u200dgate never opened. With the trucks coming in \u2062 [with humanitarian aid\u00a0from Egypt], why\u2064 can\u2019t we at the same time \u2026 get those American families \u2026 out that gate?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Blinen said there \u200cwere \u201coccasions where \u200cwe thought that we would be able\u2062 to move forward \u2026 \u200conly to find that the\u2062 necessary \u2064procedures that had to be put in place to actually make that work couldn\u2019t go forward,\u201d adding that \u201cHamas has been the \u200bimpediment to that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re working \u200con it with Egypt. \u200bWe\u2019re working on it with Israel. \u2062We\u2019re looking for ways to get people out. But because Hamas controls what goes on\u200d for the most part inside of\u200d Gaza, unless \u200dit agrees, then it\u2019s \u2063going to be \u2064very difficult to get that done,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, national security adviser Jake Sullivan indicated Hamas \u2063had been \u200bless than helpful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is true the Egyptians are prepared to allow American citizens and foreign nationals to\u200d come through\u2064 the Rafah gate into \u2062Egypt. The\u2063 Israelis have no issue with that,\u201d he \u200csaid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHamas has \u200cbeen preventing their\u200c departure and making a series of demands. This \u200dcomes \u200cafter Secretary \u2063of State Antony Blinken&#8217;s announcement that hundreds \u2063of \u200cAmericans remain trapped in\u2064 the region due to \u200cthe ongoing war.
