Security Council and the U.N. General Assembly pass a resolution explicitly denouncing the Palestinian\u200b terrorist organization.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Calls for Resignation<\/h2>\n<p>The\u200d timing of Ms. Luna&#8217;s bill coincides with\u200d calls for U.N. Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres to \u2063quit\u2063 following a speech that some\u2063 have interpreted as justifying the actions\u200c of\u2063 Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United States should not fund\u2063 the UN Human Rights Council until it stops targeting our \u200dclosest ally,\u201d\u200b Ms. Luna added, going on to say that the U.N. must <strong>unequivocally condemn Hamas\u2019s utter disregard for \u2063human life \u200band the\u200d terror they are inflicting on Israelis and the innocent \u2063Palestinians they \u2063use as human shields.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ms. Luna&#8217;s\u200b bill\u200c was supported by an\u2062 array of co-sponsors, including Reps. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.)\u200b and Greg Steube (R-Fla.) \u200band\u200d Republican Reps. Brian \u200dBabin, Lance Gooden, and Randy Weber of Texas; Andy\u200b Biggs of\u2064 Arizona; Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma; Eric Burlison of Missouri; John\u200c Curtis of Utah; Nicole \u200dMalliotakis and George Santos of New York; \u200dMary Miller of Illinois; Jeff\u2062 Van Drew of New Jersey; Andy Ogles of Tennessee; and Victoria Spartz of Indiana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe hypocrisy in all of this is while the UNHRC lectures Israel on defense, China (one of their HRC members)\u200d is actively\u2064 putting Muslims in concentration camps,&#8221; Ms. Luna said. &#8220;It\u2019s time they save the world their virtue-signaling and we defund them.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Mr. Brecheen offered his support for the legislation, saying in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepBrecheen\/status\/1719422347516518622?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post<\/a> on X, &#8220;It should\u2062 not \u2064be hard to unequivocally reject and condemn terrorism, but that is unfortunately where the United Nations\u2064 currently \u200bstands.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>&#8220;We should not be \u200bgiving a dime to the United Nations Human Rights Council until the UN condemns Hamas for its heinous attack on Israel earlier this month. I will always stand with Israel and its right to defend itself from\u2063 neighboring countries that want to wipe it off\u200b the map. Why won\u2019t the UN stand with Israel too?&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Support in the\u2064 GOP \u2062House<\/h2>\n<p>The Republican-controlled\u2062 House of Representatives has shown strong support \u2064for \u2064Israel, a longtime ally \u200dof the United \u200cStates, since the start of the Israel-Hamas war.<\/p>\n<p>As his first legislative act in \u2064his leadership role, \u200dHouse Speaker Mike \u200dJohnson (R-La.) \u200bcarried a resolution in support of standing with Israel to the floor of the House.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution\u200b was approved by a vote of 412\u201310, \u2063with six representatives\u2063 voting &#8220;present&#8221; on Oct. \u200d25,\u200d mere hours after the\u2064 new speaker was sworn in.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>President Biden also previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/biden-calls-for-support-for-israel-ukraine-in-oval-office-address-5513728\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-reader-unique-id=\"19\">called for support<\/a> for Israel and Ukraine \u2064in a recent Oval \u2064Office address, saying on Oct. 19 that both should receive increased funding.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>According\u200b to the president, Israel and Ukraine winning their respective conflicts is in the United States&#8217; national security interest.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You know, history has \u200btaught us \u200dthat when terrorists don&#8217;t \u200cpay a price for their terror, when dictators don&#8217;t pay a price for their aggression, \u200dthey cause more\u200d chaos and death\u200c and more destruction,&#8221; he\u200c said.<\/p>\n<p>President Biden went on to underscore his belief that aid was necessary, saying &#8220;They keep going, and the cost and the threat to America and the world keep rising.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In his comments on Ms. Luna&#8217;s\u2064 legislation, Mr. Burlison pointed to the nature of the attacks on the Untied States ally, saying, \u201cHamas\u2019s disgusting attack on innocents in Israel should be denounced in\u2064 every possible way and it\u2019s a disgrace the UN has refused\u200b to condemn \u200dHamas. It\u2019s our duty as leaders of the \u200bfree world to\u2063 defend them. Funding the UNHRC without holding it accountable\u200b would be a \u2062tacit endorsement of its inaction\u200c and a betrayal of our\u2062 closest ally, \u2062Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Luna\u2019s bill, with its\u200b bipartisan support, seeks to rectify this\u2062 situation.\u200c It sends a clear message that the United States will not support an organization that compromises human rights\u200c principles and\u200b fails to condemn terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore,\u200b the bill highlights the hypocrisy within the UNHRC.
