There are just different ways, all of which can and should be perfectly equally embraced and celebrated (with the exception, of\u2064 course, of all ways that can be associated with \u201ccolonizer\/oppressor\u201d peoples).\u2063 The doctrine of cultural relativism in anthropology gets at it with \u200cclarity. All cultures came up with their own unique ways, through whatever cultural\u200c challenges they faced. And each \u200cone is perfect in its own way, and there is no way to evaluate them.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is, of course, <a href=\"https:\/\/americanmind.org\/salvo\/multiculturalism-is-ethnocentrism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">foolishness<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-640977624\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-608955445d073ebf7f273a9282f1a4d2 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-608955445d073ebf7f273a9282f1a4d2\"><\/div>\n<p>But around this time of year, I find myself in the rare position of tipping my hat \u200bto \u200ba cultural practice that the multiculturalist despisers of American culture love to celebrate, even if they always do it in a \u200cway that distracts from the actual content of the practice, which is both conservative and Christian \u2014 two things the multiculturalists dislike intensely. \u200dThis is the Mexican cultural practice of the D\u00eda de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beyond Celebrating the \u200cDead<\/h2>\n<p>For those with no knowledge of this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gov-newsom-appoints-assemblyman-rob-bonta-to-be-calif-ag\/\" title=\"Gov. Newsom appoints assemblyman Rob Bonta to be Calif. AG\">important piece<\/a> of Mexican culture, and especially if you have young \u200dchildren, I highly encourage you to have a look \u200cat the 2017 film \u201cCoco.\u201d It gives\u2064 a fairly accurate\u200b presentation of the meaning of the ritual in\u200b traditional Mexico in terms that even a child can understand.<\/p>\n<p>Abuelita Elena\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0TYbf1pw1g8\">explanation<\/a> to Miguel is \u2062admirable in its passionate \u200csuccinctness. The essence is the celebratory remembrance of family \u2062members who have passed from this realm, of our eternal \u200blove for them, and their love for us. But it goes beyond \u200dthat.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"dNtLW91WrJKmdYItk0yZVSic4RIb6EfTqH7HOLFQOpuAEhowbBcC9BqegUDhfaDg8Cj8Zl37m1A3Ms6jzy5zuvQnGMK\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"ratio ratio-16x9\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Coco explains the D\u00eda de los Muertos (Mexican Day of the Dead)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0TYbf1pw1g8?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Perhaps the most basic element of the Day \u2064of the Dead is erecting the familial <em>ofrenda<\/em>. The <em>ofrenda<\/em>, or \u2062offering, is\u2062 a display in the home of the members of the family who have passed \u200don. You can use a \u200dmultilevel \u200btable, old packing crates, boxes, or just about any structure to make\u2064 it. Decorated with colorful cloth\u200c and paper, the \u200ddisplay consists \u2064of photos of the beloved deceased, food\u200c and drink they preferred in life, candles and marigolds and incense to attract them to the\u2063 warmth of our homes, perhaps some <em>calaveras<\/em>, or skulls, \u2063which are the forms our beloved ancestors now wear.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-45c7e0d0d9557eca53782b8494d91e96 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-45c7e0d0d9557eca53782b8494d91e96\"><\/div>\n<p>Day of\u2064 the Dead is <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/AzWoSgPS3vw?t=270\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">still \u200dcelebrated in its intimate essentials in Mexico<\/a>. It is also celebrated \u2063in other ways in urban parts of \u2062the country. In these parts of the country more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zOuq6q7p8_s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">distant from tradition, it is seen as \u2062a kind of Halloween-like party<\/a>, dedicated simply to putting on costumes and symbolically poking fun at death.<\/p>\n<p>Day of the Dead exists in the United States too \u2014 almost entirely \u2064in a form consistent with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/secular-multiculturalists-totally-whiff-on-why-christians-celebrate-day-of-the-dead\/\" title=\"Secular multiculturalists miss the mark on Christian 'Day of the Dead' celebration.\">rapidly secularizing culture dominant<\/a> here, which reads \u2064the event as a\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=z652RscVypE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201ccelebration of life\u201d<\/a> and a time to remember those\u200d passed, who are\u2063 understood as gone forever.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Christ Conquered\u200d Death<\/h2>\n<p>But in Christian elements of its foundation is something central that is missed in\u200d secular celebrations of Day of the Dead and by those\u2064 who are increasingly \u2063separated from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bill-maher-blames-capitol-riot-on-christianity-conflates-qanon-conspiracies-with-religious-thinking\/\" title=\"Bill Maher Blames Capitol Riot On Christianity, Conflates QAnon Conspiracies With \u2018Religious Thinking\u2019\">religious faith<\/a>. It is the <a href=\"https:\/\/alexanderriley.substack.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">belief<\/a> that the communities of the dead and\u2064 of the living are always in fact\u2064 one community. \u200cThey are\u2062 temporarily separated by the vale\u200c of tears, but the community of\u200c the dead \u2062is not simply extinguished. They remain spiritually alive,\u2062 if \u200cseparated from \u200bour world.<\/p>\n<p>On the D\u00eda de los Muertos, we honor and remember them, pray for them, ask them to aid and pray for us, and we joyfully anticipate the eventual coming together again \u200cof our two communities in the world\u2064 to come.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-29c99e3cbe66a0447b8a35b07f88fb28 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-29c99e3cbe66a0447b8a35b07f88fb28\"><\/div>\n<p>Day of the Dead is actually two days: the Day of the Little Angels (Nov. 1), which is oriented toward deceased children, and the Day\u2063 of the Faithful Departed (Nov. 2), focused \u200don adults who have left us. In \u2062the Christian calendar, these are the dates of All Saints\u2019 \u200bDay and \u2064All Souls\u2019 Day, which date respectively \u200dfrom the\u200d seventh and 11th centuries. During Mexico\u2019s Christianization, the Catholic Church syncretically took \u2063indigenous practices related to the remembrance of the dead and integrated them into a fundamentally Christian belief system, \u2062creating the Day of the Dead.<\/p>\n<p>Some critics see the \u200cDay of the\u2063 Dead as ancestor worship, which is opposed by Christianity in the most straightforward way. Yet it is not the ancestors themselves or death that are worshipped. What is\u200b celebrated is our bond with the departed community.<\/p>\n<p>What is worshipped is God\u2019s conquering of\u200b death, which allows that\u2063 bond to go on forever. The idea of\u200c a recognition of the \u2063community of \u2064the living and\u200d the\u200d dead, a \u2064spiritual community that exceeds the \u2062community\u2064 we \u2064see in the material world\u2064 of our present lives, \u200dis deeply\u2062 consistent with Christianity.<\/p>\n<p>The Christian underpinnings of the Day of the Dead are what \u2063make it of interest to those who are,\u200b for good reasons,\u2064 uninterested\u2063 in multiculturalism in its current relativist and divisive forms. For they reveal a ritual deeply consonant with the \u200cChristian view that death \u200dis\u200d not\u200b the end and that our loving bond to those who have gone before us is perhaps the most important \u2062social tie\u200c we have in this world.<\/p>\n<p>A love for the past and for those who came before us is consistent\u200b with \u200ba holistic view of the human world. That world is made of three communities: those here now, those who have lived and died and await us, and those yet to come. Our unity is\u2062 in the spiritual life that animates us all, and\u200d the truth of the Christian claims about life \u2062and death\u2062 are not merely \u2064one more claim in Relativism Land. They are a truth\u200c that unites believers across cultures \u200dand time. Day of the Dead is\u200b a wonderful opportunity to recall this unity.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-9b6f7a87d049dca543729814d900ed2b fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-9b6f7a87d049dca543729814d900ed2b\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n<p> T the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-arrogant-racism-of-rejecting-a-white-translator-in-favor-of-someone-who-is-preferably-black\/\" title=\"The Arrogant Racism Of Rejecting A White Translator In Favor Of Someone Who Is \u2018Preferably Black\u2019\">eighth century<\/a>. These holy days\u2064 are dedicated to honoring and praying for all the saints and departed \u2064souls. The Christian significance of these\u200b days adds a deeper layer of meaning to the celebration\u200c of\u200d the Day of the Dead.<\/p>\n<p>As Christians, we\u2064 believe in the resurrection and eternal life \u200dthrough Jesus<\/p>\n<h2>Christ. The significance of the \u2064eighth century in relation to these beliefs can be explored through the following questions:<\/h2>\n<p><span>  1. Were there any significant religious figures \u200bor leaders in the eighth\u200c century\u2064 who played a role in shaping Christian beliefs?<\/p>\n<p>4. What were the \u200dmain challenges or controversies faced by Christians in\u2062 the eighth \u2064century and how did they respond to them?<\/p>\n<p>5. Did any major ecumenical councils or synods take place in the \u2064eighth century that\u2064 influenced Christian beliefs?<\/p>\n<p>6.
