The charges\u200d include traveling to\u2063 Europe with the intent of paying for sex \u200dwith \u200ba minor and receipt\u200c and attempted receipt\u200d of\u200d child pornography, according to the Department of\u2062 Justice.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents allege that Holmberg traveled to Prague, Czech \u200bRepublic,\u200d from June 2011 through November 2016 for the purpose of engaging \u200cin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pastor-high-school-coach-among-nearly-80-people-arrested-in-sex-trafficking-sting-operation\/\" title=\"Pastor, High School Coach Among Nearly 80 People Arrested In Sex Trafficking Sting Operation\">commercial sex acts<\/a> with a minor. The indictment \u200calso suggests that Holmberg received material depicting a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct from \u2063November 2012 to March 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Friese,\u200b Holmberg&#8217;s attorney, told The Associated Press that authorities investigated his client for more than two years and alleged\u200b nothing recent. The conduct they allege is from more than\u200d a decade ago. Friese added that Holmberg was released with\u200b conditions and \u200cwas not required to post\u2062 any bond.<\/p>\n<p>If convicted, Holmberg faces a maximum\u200d penalty of 50 years in prison. His travels\u200b included four dozen U.S. cities, Canada, Puerto Rico, and several European countries.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, \u2064authorities seized video discs and additional items from Holmberg&#8217;s residence in Grand Forks.<\/p>\n<p>Former North Dakota Republican \u200bSenate Majority Leader Rich \u2063Wardner, who\u2064 served alongside Holmberg for nearly 25 years,\u2063 expressed concern that\u200d if Holmberg is convicted, his positive contributions \u2062to the state will \u2064be overshadowed by the \u200bnegative.
