he \u200dsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, deaths from natural disasters declined\u2063 by over 90 \u200bpercent while\u200d the\u2062 cost of disasters \u2062globally has reduced over the last 30 years, he noted, adding that about 300-500 people \u2063a year die from disasters in the United States,\u2064 compared to about\u200b 100,000 deaths \u200cfrom drug overdoses in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When you add up these two \u2063things,\u2062 declining costs, declining deaths,\u200d you end up with declining \u200doverall weather and \u200cclimate disasters,&#8221; he\u200b told the conference.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">&#8220;This has \u2063never been properly reported in any of\u2064 the mainstream corporate \u200cnewspapers anywhere\u200c in the world. This is\u2064 one of the\u200d worst cases of climate misinformation and disinformation.&#8221;<\/div>\n<h2>High Energy \u2064Societies the Way Forward<\/h2>\n<p>The \u200benergy\u200b expert also argued that using more energy, not less, was the solution \u2064to protecting the environment.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Shellenberger advocated for\u2063 a \u201cpro-human vision\u201d in dealing with energy\u2063 issues, explaining \u2064that it \u2064consisted of \u201cenergy abundance, unlocking prosperity, and environmental progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you \u200dwant to \u200dsave nature, you need to not use it or use less of it. If you\u2019re going to do that\u200c you need to have substitutes, and\u200d you need to intensify your energy consumption,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We \u200bsave \u2062nature by using more energy so that we can produce \u200bmore food on less land and return our farmed areas to grasses \u2064and\u200c forests.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Energy,\u200b he said, \u2064had lifted many people out of\u200d poverty. It has also\u200c reduced\u200b the\u200b amount\u200b of land used to \u2063produce the same amount \u2063of\u200d food by\u200c over 60\u200d percent since 1960, which leaves more room for endangered species.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no rich low-energy country\u2063 just as there is no \u200bpoor high-energy one,\u201d Mr. Shellenberger said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Shellenberger \u2064said nuclear was the \u200c\u201csafest, cleanest\u201d source of\u200c energy, which could help reduce material\u2064 throughput and take three to 400 times less land to produce compared to \u200bsolar and wind energy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we\u2019ve seen\u2062 is that\u200b we are potentially going to \u200csee \u2064more coal burned this year. The reason for it is\u2064 that we \u2063have \u200dhad incredible opposition to more oil and \u200cgas production,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you want to reduce \u2062your coal\u200b consumption, increase your gas consumption. It\u2019s that simple. If you want to increase \u200dyour carbon\u200b emissions, shut \u2063down your nuclear\u200c plants and follow the example of Germany.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He \u200cargued that while Germany aimed to \u2062reduce their per capita energy consumption a little bit over time, the country would not drop itself to \u201cVietnamese, Indonesian, or Indian levels\u201d of energy consumption per person.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\u201cIt took us\u200b about\u200c 20 years to debunk the\u200d mythology that you \u2063could have all of this wealth and prosperity without having a high\u200c energy economy.\u201d<\/div>\n<h2>Renewable Energy\u200b Costs Do Not Stack Up<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Shellenberger also said renewable\u2063 energy sources actually cost more as they scale up.<\/p>\n<p>For example, in his\u2063 research, \u2063the value of wind energy dropped 40\u200c percent\u2062 when it comprised 30 percent of an electricity grid, while solar\u2019s value declined 50 \u2064percent when it reached \u200d15 percent of a grid.<\/p>\n<p>While renewable\u200c advocates touted their lower costs, they did not count the cost\u2064 of\u200d transmission lines, storage, and \u200cthe cost of\u200c re-engineering gas plants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe more renewable you \u2064have, the higher the cost of your electricity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Shellenberger \u200cadded\u2062 that solar panels \u200cwere only cheap because \u201cthey \u200dwere made\u2062 by\u2064 people living in concentration camps.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\u201cI don\u2019t think that as a society, we should stand by \u200dand continue to import products \u2062that are made by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/misinformation-ecomodernist-says-planet-is-healthier-than-what-climate-change-activists-claim\/\" title=\"Ecomodernist disputes climate activists' claims on planet's health.\">persecuted religious minorities housed<\/a> in\u2064 concentration \u200bcamps abroad.
