The investigation was initiated by Schwalb&#8217;s office in\u2063 response to a complaint from \u2064a \u2063progressive group closely associated with\u200b the left-wing dark money behemoth Arabella \u2062Advisors.<\/p>\n<p>In their letter, \u200dHouse Judiciary Committee chairman Jim \u200cJordan (R., Ohio) and Oversight Committee chairman James Comer (R., Ky.) express their concerns about the &#8220;improper and politically\u200b motivated&#8221; nature of Schwalb&#8217;s investigation. They further worry that this investigation could potentially infringe upon the \u200bfundamental rights of donor privacy and free \u200bassociation.<\/p>\n<p>Schwalb is\u2064 currently investigating whether Leo&#8217;s affiliates are violating nonprofit laws by allocating \u2064$73 million to \u2064Leo&#8217;s for-profit \u200cconsultancy, CRC Advisors. Schwalb&#8217;s office\u200c recently launched an <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/dc-attorney-general-subpoenas-arabella-advisors-dark-money-network-following-free-beacon-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investigation<\/a> into Arabella Advisors following a series of reports from \u200bthe <em>Washington Free\u2062 Beacon<\/em> that shed light on the firm&#8217;s questionable financial practices.<\/p>\n<p>Comer and Jordan point out in their letter \u200dthat \u200cSchwalb&#8217;s investigation \u2064was prompted by an IRS complaint from the \u2063left-wing Campaign for Accountability.
