Both women \u2063were serving as members of their respective\u2062 school boards when the COVID pandemic struck. Having <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/moms-for-liberty-we-do-not-co-parent-with-the-government\/\" title=\"Moms for Liberty: No Government Co-Parenting\">witnessed teachers\u2019 unions prioritizing fear-based policies<\/a> and activist messaging over \u2063the well-being of children, they founded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.momsforliberty.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moms for Liberty<\/a>, a grassroots organization\u200b empowering parents to defend their rights and advocate for their children\u2019s\u200d education. In less than three years, the organization has established 300 chapters across\u200c the \u200ccountry.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Jan Jekielek:<\/h2>\n<p>You two are doing Moms for Liberty town halls everywhere these days, most recently in Montgomery County, Maryland. What are these town halls all about?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Tiffany Justice:<\/h2>\n<p>We call them Giving Parents a Voice, and that&#8217;s what we&#8217;re\u200d doing. We&#8217;re putting the microphone into the hands of parents. There are private conversations between children and adults\u200c in schools without the consent or knowledge of parents, leading them down a dangerous path as far as gender transition is concerned. Gender ideology \u200dand sexual \u200borientation are \u2062being taught in the classroom. It\u2019s\u2062 being introduced\u2062 to children as young as 5 years old.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Tina Descovich:<\/h2>\n<p>We bring people all over the country together\u200c for these discussions, because the issues are different everywhere. And these issues cross the\u2062 lines \u200dof religion\u2063 and race. Last night \u2063we had the Jewish, Ethiopian, Muslim, and Christian populations\u200c represented, all speaking out against what&#8217;s happening.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Mr.\u2064 Jekielek:<\/h2>\n<p>Please tell\u200b me how you got into this.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Ms. Descovich:<\/h2>\n<p>I was a volunteer in my children&#8217;s elementary school \u200band\u200d was PTO president. I was doing all I could to improve their education and\u200b be involved in their school.\u200c That\u2019s when \u2062you see what&#8217;s happening in the system and all the problems.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>When my\u200b son was in seventh grade, he brought\u2064 home an assignment that he got a 100 percent on. Of course, I was proud of him, but when I opened it, I found a poster that\u200c said, &#8220;Wanted, Christopher Columbus, for crimes against humanity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After\u200d Christopher Columbus, there was one assignment after another like that. My eyes \u200bwere opened, and once your eyes are opened, you can&#8217;t go back.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Mr. Jekielek:<\/h2>\n<p>Let&#8217;s look at the pandemic, when things really changed.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Ms. Descovich:<\/h2>\n<p>Our school board\u200d had gotten along well. We had a Democrat, an independent, and several Republicans. Everybody worked together for the betterment of our community. \u200cWhen COVID happened,\u2062 that just went away.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It was bizarre to watch colleagues I had respected ignoring parents who were in tears, like the mom asking about her deaf child, \u201cHow is she going to communicate and get an education if she and her teacher are\u200c both \u2064masked?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The board didn&#8217;t want to allow any exceptions. I kept voting against the forced quarantine of healthy children and the masking with no opt-out, but \u2062they kept\u200b bringing it.\u200d It was second-grade through 12th-grade\u200c for masks, and \u2062then they brought \u200cit down to kindergarten. Meanwhile, Tiffany was\u200b in the school \u2064district\u200b near \u200cmine, doing the same thing and having the same experience.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Mr. Jekielek:<\/h2>\n<p>How did you get involved, Tiffany?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Ms.\u200b Justice:<\/h2>\n<p>I started as a volunteer at my \u200ckids&#8217; school too, where\u200b I learned a lot \u200babout the way the school district prioritizes its funds. I\u2063 saw that the district\u2019s priorities were really out of sync \u200dwith what \u2062was\u200b best for the kids.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Mr. Jekielek:<\/h2>\n<p>How so?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Ms. Justice:<\/h2>\n<p>Kids were eating lunch at 10:30 a.m. because the union bargaining contract dictated that. Early release days happened once a month, which weren&#8217;t good for kids or parents, and\u2062 the teachers didn&#8217;t like them, but the union wanted \u2064them kept in the contract. There\u2064 was a lot of covering up educational \u200dfailure and making excuses. That&#8217;s\u2063 how you end up with a 90 \u2064percent graduation\u2062 rate, but only 25 percent of graduates reading even at an eighth-grade level.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Mr. Jekielek:<\/h2>\n<p>What is Moms for Liberty\u2062 all about?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Ms. Descovich:<\/h2>\n<p>What was done to\u2062 parents and children during the pandemic was destructive to public education and our \u200csystem of government. We saw \u200ban\u2064 opportunity to unify and educate these parents, and empower them to defend their rights. We organize in \u2064chapters around the\u2063 country. We fight at the local \u2063level to defend parental\u2063 rights \u200band \u200cto improve public education.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Ms. Justice:<\/h2>\n<p>Our motto at Moms for Liberty is that we do not co-parent with the government. Parents can delegate the education of their children to a public school system, but\u200d that doesn&#8217;t mean they\u2019re delegating their responsibilities and rights as parents.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We\u2019re also trying \u2062to reform the schools and focus on\u200d basics: \u2062reading, writing, and math. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-calls-striking-teachers-tactics-preposterous-orders-them-back-to-classrooms\/\" title=\"Judge deems striking teachers' tactics 'absurd,' mandates their return to classrooms.\">teachers&#8217; \u2064unions<\/a> seem more interested in forcing\u2063 ideology into the schools than ensuring \u2063the kids can read.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Ms. Descovich:<\/h2>\n<p>Their summer conferences show what these unions value. There\u2019s nothing on their agenda about education or reading. They take stands on abortion, they get involved in foreign policy, but\u200b they don\u2019t talk about\u2062 the basics of education.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Ms. Justice:<\/h2>\n<p>We interviewed a gentleman from Hong Kong who has \u2062seen the change. He lived \u2062here,\u2062 left for a long time, and came back. He told us, &#8220;America used to \u200bbe a bright light, but we feel that light is dimming.&#8221; American parents feel\u2063 it, too.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Mr. Jekielek:<\/h2>\n<p>So, what&#8217;s next for Moms for Liberty?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Ms. Descovich:<\/h2>\n<p>We\u200d want\u2064 a chapter in all 3000\u200d counties in the country. \u2063Only parents can save public\u2064 education.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Mr. Jekielek:<\/h2>\n<p>A final thought, Tiffany?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Ms. Justice:<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s a blessing and an honor to be part of Moms \u200cfor Liberty.
