They were not\u200b informed beforehand that they would be facing transgender women in the \u2064competition.<\/p>\n<h3>Unprepared for the \u2063Unexpected<\/h3>\n<p>Jayden Alexander, a martial\u200d artist from the North American \u2063Grappling Association, was scheduled\u200c to compete against one of \u200dthe transgender athletes. &#8220;I honestly never thought this would actually happen in a contact\u2062 sport, especially not my contact sport,&#8221; expressed the Brazilian jiujitsu blue belt. &#8220;When I saw him, I was \u2062so shocked I didn&#8217;t know how to respond.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ansleigh Wilk, a Brazilian jiujitsu brown belt and coach, quickly realized that she couldn&#8217;t rely on her \u200cusual techniques against the transgender athletes. &#8220;I realized very quickly I couldn&#8217;t muscle them like most girls,&#8221; she admitted. \u2062&#8221;Well obviously, because it wasn&#8217;t a girl. Then\u200d not long after, I had to do \u2063a second match of which Cordelia threw a tantrum saying [Gregory] &#8216;didn&#8217;t tap [out].&#8217; I\u2062 was sincerely scared [Gregory] was going to punch me when \u2063I stuck my\u2062 hand \u200dout to shake [Gregory&#8217;s].&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>NAGA Faces Criticism and Implements Policy \u200dChange<\/h3>\n<p>The Georgia Grappling and BJJ Championship, which falls under the North American Grappling Association (NAGA), has faced \u200dbacklash for facilitating matches \u200bbetween men\u2062 and women.\u2063 Initially, NAGA stated\u2062 that they did not require biological women to\u2064 compete against\u200b transgender women and allowed them to \u2063choose whether to participate in a division with \u2064other biological women. However, following the mass outrage surrounding the October 21 tournament, NAGA implemented \u2062a policy change on October 28 \u200dthat now prohibits transgender women \u2062from\u2064 competing\u200d in female divisions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We,\u2062 as an organization, strive to ensure fairness, \u2062inclusivity, and respect\u2063 for all competitors within\u2062 our \u200bevents.
