(Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>After his\u200c election on Oct. 25 \u200bby \u200ba unanimous vote of Republicans, his first official act as speaker was to bring to the floor a resolution condemning the Hamas terrorist group for its \u2063attack on Israel. The resolution was overwhelmingly approved, with only 10\u200c no votes.<\/p>\n<p>However, much work remains for\u2062 the new speaker, who will need to \u2062get Washington back on track after weeks of chaos left it unable to do anything.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Averting a Government Shutdown<\/h2>\n<p>Priority No. 1\u200d for lawmakers is averting a government shutdown.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In his last act \u200das speaker, Mr. McCarthy, with the support of House Democrats, pushed a stopgap spending bill through the lower chamber to keep the\u2063 government funded until Nov. 17.<\/p>\n<p>Now, beating that deadline is Mr.\u2062 Johnson&#8217;s top priority as \u2064speaker, he said, and Republicans now have only\u2062 a few weeks to do it.<\/p>\n<p>The House still needs to \u200dpass seven of the 12 annual appropriations bills.<\/p>\n<p>So far, they&#8217;ve passed five of the 12, including\u200d a\u2063 bill to\u2064 fund\u200b the State Department\u200d and foreign\u2064 operations, \u2063a bill to fund military construction and Veteran&#8217;s Affairs, bills to fund the Pentagon and Department of Homeland Security,\u2063 and, last week, an energy bill.<\/p>\n<p>Passing the remaining bills, Mr. Johnson said earlier, will allow the House to negotiate with the Democrat-controlled \u2063Senate \u200dfrom &#8220;a position of strength.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ideally, Mr. Johnson hopes to pass each of these eight bills\u200b individually and through\u2062 regular House order\u2014the outcome that conservatives\u2064 have called\u2063 for all\u2064 along in the hope of averting an omnibus spending bill, in which all\u200b government \u200cfunding is passed through a single gargantuan package.<\/p>\n<p>However, passing all of these bills before Nov. 17 represents a Herculean \u2064challenge for Mr. Johnson, and he&#8217;s\u2064 made clear that, if necessary, he&#8217;s open to the\u200c prospect of another stopgap bill.<\/p>\n<p>And even if Mr. Johnson can navigate the House through passing all 12 bills, he&#8217;ll still need\u200c to reach an agreement with the Democrat-held Senate.<\/p>\n<p>Many Republicans \u2062hope to use funding as a vehicle for winning concessions from the Senate and President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>But this partisan posturing will \u2063almost certainly require bicameral\u200c negotiations to find a solution that both sides can agree on, which will \u200btake up additional \u200btime after\u2062 funding\u200d passes the House.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Aid \u2063for Ukraine and \u200dIsrael<\/h2>\n<p>Also\u200d on lawmakers&#8217; \u200dagenda is\u2063 considering \u200badditional financial aid for Israel and Ukraine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>President Biden has requested a massive investment in the two conflicts, asking Congress to approve over $100 billion in aid\u2014a figure \u2063many Republicans have\u200b balked at.<\/p>\n<p>President Biden\u200c and Senate\u2062 Minority Leader\u2064 Mitch McConnell\u2062 (R-Ky.) have both called for the consideration of such aid as part of a\u2062 single package. (Win McNamee\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>In the past, Mr. Johnson has \u200dvoted against most U.S. aid to Ukraine.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>While he&#8217;s now open \u200bto bringing aid packages to the floor, Mr. Johnson has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/speaker-mike-johnson-calls-for-separate-ukraine-and-israel-aid-packages-5517748\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> that he hopes to\u2064 pass \u2062them separately.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;I told the staff at the White House today that our consensus among House Republicans is that we need to bifurcate those\u200c issues,&#8221; Mr.\u200c Johnson\u200b said Thursday in an interview with Fox \u2062News host Sean Hannity.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Mr.\u200d Johnson has said that the House will present its own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/new-house-speaker-makes-vow-unveils-plan-to-support-israel-5518874?ea_src=frontpage&#038;ea_med=lead-special-house-speaker-mike-johnson-medium-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plan<\/a> to provide Israel\u2063 with $14 billion in financial assistance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;One thing that House Republicans are resolved on is that we must stand \u200dwith our most important ally in the Middle East, and that\u2019s Israel. We will,&#8221;\u2063 Mr. Johnson said. &#8220;We certainly \u2062hope that it doesn\u2019t come to \u2062boots on the \u2062ground.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Just four days after \u2062he took up the\u200b mantle of speaker, Mr. Johnson declared to a largely Jewish audience, &#8220;We \u2062are going\u200b to \u200bstand like a rock with our friend and our ally, Israel.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>By contrast, he expressed some concerns with the war in Ukraine, which he \u2063said has been\u200d funded\u200b by the United States without proper oversight and with no clear strategy from America.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can\u2019t\u2064 allow Vladimir Putin to prevail in Ukraine, because I don\u2019t believe it would stop there, and it would probably \u2064encourage and empower China to perhaps make a move on Taiwan. We have these concerns,&#8221; Mr. Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re \u200cnot going to abandon them. \u2062But we have a responsibility, a stewardship responsibility, over the precious treasure of the American people,&#8221; he continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have to make \u2063sure that the White House is providing the people with some accountability for the dollars,&#8221; Mr. Johnson\u2062 said, a\u2062 reference to a long-running GOP demand for a Ukraine funding watchdog.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Mr. Johnson said that the White House has failed to explain the &#8220;endgame&#8221; in U.S. funding to Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Mr.\u2062 Johnson added, &#8220;We deeply \u2062care and are concerned about all nations of free people around the world,\u2063 but we have \u2062to take care of our own house first, and\u200b so that\u2019s also \u2063part of this \u200cdelicate\u2063 calculation and the \u2064decision.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Despite some Republican concerns with funding particularly the Ukrainian conflict, it&#8217;s all but a foregone conclusion that Congress\u2063 will ultimately pass additional aid for both Ukraine and Israel,\u200d as similar \u200cpackages have historically passed by wide \u2063margins.<\/p>\n<h2>Biden \u200dImpeachment Inquiry<\/h2>\n<p>As the House returns to normal functions, Republicans also plan to resume\u2064 their impeachment inquiry into President Biden.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Earlier this year, then-Speaker McCarthy announced\u2063 that Republicans were launching an impeachment probe into the president without a vote of the full House, a move that gave Republicans additional powers to \u200cinvestigate the president.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>That decision came after House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.) revealed findings alleging that the\u200d Biden family and their associates \u2062had made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/breakdown-of-21-million-the-biden-family-associates-received-from-foreign-sources-gop-reports-5454239\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over $21 million<\/a> from foreign\u2063 sources and received preferential treatment from\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/d-c-mayor-congress-must-open-a-probe-into-security-failures-at-u-s-capitol\/\" title=\"D.C.
