Not only did the outlet amplify Hamas\u2019 claims on its platforms at the outset\u2062 of \u2062the story, \u200bbut\u2064 its initial rolling online article definitively stated\u2014with no attribution to any party\u2014that Israel was responsible for\u2062 the lethal explosion. The story was later edited, but the error was never acknowledged in a correction or editors\u2019 note. While it is common for news\u200c outlets to update online stories as new information becomes available, when errors are made, standard practice is to acknowledge them in formal corrections. A CNN spokesperson declined to comment specifically on the online story when reached Monday.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Reliable sources<\/h3>\n<p>Despite the retractions regarding the Gaza hospital incident, media outlets continued to\u2064 rely on Hamas&#8217;s statistics on Palestinian deaths, even\u2064 though the terrorist group has a history of misrepresenting these numbers.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Israeli military said on Tuesday\u200d it escalated airstrikes in Gaza overnight. Over 700 people were killed, the highest single-day death toll of the war, the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry said. From an office at \u2063Shifa Hospital in \u2064Gaza City, al-Qidra receives a \u2064constant flow of data from every hospital \u2063in the strip.<\/p>\n<p>Hospital administrators say\u2062 they keep records \u2062of every wounded person occupying a bed and every dead body arriving at a morgue. They enter this data into a computerized system shared with al-Qidra and colleagues. According to screenshots hospital directors sent to AP, the system looks like\u200d a color-coded spreadsheet divided into categories: name, ID\u200d number, date of hospital entry, type of injury, condition.<\/p>\n<p>Names aren\u2019t always available, al-Qidra\u2063 said.
