Frederick Short \u200bJr. has filed a \u200blawsuit in federal court against the Cherry Hill Township School District and the New Jersey Department of Education, challenging their guidelines on transgenderism.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit, which also names State Education Commissioner Angelica Allen-McMillan as a defendant, argues that the policy violates parents&#8217; rights and is detrimental to children&#8217;s\u200d well-being.\u200d Short aims to compel the district and public schools across New Jersey to notify parents if their child wishes to transition.<\/p>\n<p>The guidelines state that schools are not obligated to inform parents if\u200d their child begins &#8220;identifying&#8221; as the opposite sex, \u200demphasizing that &#8220;parental consent \u2063is not\u200d required.&#8221; The suit argues that this extended secrecy and concealment from parents can have negative psychological \u200beffects on children.<\/p>\n<p>Short&#8217;s legal\u200b action follows similar cases in which parents challenged\u200c school districts&#8217; policies regarding transgender-identifying students without parental consent. In one instance, a judge ruled \u2062in favor\u200b of\u200b the parents and\u200d overturned \u2062the policy.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200bCherry Hill Township School District and \u2063the state of New Jersey have two months to \u200crespond to Short&#8217;s \u2063lawsuit.
