Mark Shaffer is listed as the sole attorney on the MAEC\u2019s website.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The MAEC is a Maryland-based equity nonprofit that is almost entirely funded by American taxpayer dollars. The president of the organization has raked in $1.6 million for her work since 2011. The consortium has lucrative deals with some of the nation\u2019s most prominent school districts as well.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In November, the Montgomery County Public School district in Maryland, one of the nation\u2019s most prestigious public school districts, shelled out<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/md-school-district-to-spend-over-450000-on-anti-racist-audit\/\"><span>$454,680<\/span><\/a> <span>to the MAEC for an \u201canti-racist audit\u201d intended to create \u201cequitable outcomes for every student\u2019s academic and social-emotional well-being.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The organization touts a handful of left-leaning education partnerships including the Southern Poverty Law Center\u2019s educational arm \u201cLearning for Justice.\u201d \u201cLearning for Justice,\u201d formerly known as \u201cTeaching Tolerance,\u201d advocates for students to begin learning about slavery in kindergarten.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the MAEC\u2019s most recent<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/prominent-equity-consulting-firm-funded-entirely-by-taxpayer-dollars\/\"><span>financial filings<\/span><\/a><span>, the group spent $1.6 million on \u201cequity projects,\u201d $233,00 on \u201cfamily engagement\u201d projects intended to build partnerships among schools and parents, and another $74,000 on \u201cyouth projects.\u201d Other financial filings revealed that the group raised $19 million over its existence, $17 million of which has come from taxpayer dollars.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Top leadership received high-paying salaries as well. Shaffer received more than $200,000 in yearly compensation and the company\u2019s vice president, Maria Del Rosario Basterra, collected more than $140,000 in compensation.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/covidbailouttracker.com\/company\/mid-atlantic-equity-consortium-inc-bethesda-md-20816\"><span>COVID bailout tracker<\/span><\/a><span>,\u201d the MAEC received a $202,229 check from the Paycheck Protection Program.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/president-of-taxpayer-funded-antiracist-group-funneled-nearly-300k-to-husbands-law-firm\/\"><span>The Washington Free Beacon<\/span><\/a><span>, the consortium has also hired Shaffer\u2019s son, child psychologist Dr. Seth Shaffer to provide support for families during the coronavirus pandemic.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In September 2020, President Donald Trump issued an executive order banning federal contractors from teaching critical race theory or any theories that are \u201crooted in the pernicious and false belief that America is an irredeemably racist and sexist country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Despite those provisions, which have since been repealed by the Biden administration, the Department of Education was contracted with the MAEC which has overt ties to critical race theory.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The MAEC is among an abundance of individuals and companies who have profited from the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion industry following the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement. These organizations sell their services to schools and institutions to help them become acceptably \u201canti-racist,\u201d while many are owned and operated by white people.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Many charge exorbitant prices for training sessions. Equity Leaders, an \u201cequity\u201d organization that<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/michigan-schools-equity-training-calls-objectivity-a-form-of-white-supremacy\"><span>trained<\/span><\/a> <span>K-12 superintendents across the nation, charges $1,150 for a 60-minute session, $1,550 for a 90-minute session, $1,950 for a 120-minute session, and $3,900 for a \u201chalf-day\u201d session.
